UP APO Selection Process

The UP APO Selection Process 2026 is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) to select candidates for the post of Assistant Prosecution Officer. The process includes the Preliminary Examination, Main Written Examination and Interview/Personality Test. The Preliminary Examination is used for shortlisting candidates, while the final merit is prepared based on marks obtained in the Main Examination and Interview.

UP APO Selection Process 2026 Overview

The UP APO selection process consists of the following competitive stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination

  2. Main Written Examination

  3. Interview/Personality Test

After the selection process, candidates may be required to complete document verification and other appointment-related formalities as prescribed by UPPSC.

UP APO Preliminary Examination

The first stage of the UP APO Selection Process 2026 is the Preliminary Examination. It is conducted to shortlist candidates for the UP APO Main Written Examination.

The preliminary paper consists of General Knowledge and Law and carries a total of 150 marks with a duration of 2 hours. The General Knowledge section contains 50 questions, while the Law section contains 100 questions.

The Law portion covers important subjects such as:

  • Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023

  • Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023

  • Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023

  • U.P. Police Act and Regulations

  • Indian Constitution

The notification also prescribes negative marking for incorrect answers. For every wrong answer, one-third of the marks assigned to that question is deducted. No penalty is imposed for unanswered questions.

Shortlisting for UP APO Mains Examination

Candidates who successfully qualify for the Preliminary Examination are eligible to appear for the Main Written Examination. UPPSC has stated that candidates equal to 15 times the number of vacancies may be declared successful for the Main Examination.

Candidates shortlisted for the Mains must follow the instructions issued by the Commission and complete the required application process for the next stage.

UP APO Main Examination

The UP APO Main Examination is the most important written stage of the recruitment process. According to the notification, the Main Examination consists of six papers carrying a total of 500 marks.

The papers include:

  • General Hindi – 100 marks

  • General English – 50 marks

  • General Knowledge – 50 marks

  • Criminal Law and Procedure – 100 marks

  • Sakshya Adhiniyam – 100 marks

  • Anya Adhiniyam – 100 marks

The duration of the General English and General Knowledge papers is 1 hour and 30 minutes each, while the remaining papers have a duration of 3 hours each.

Candidates should focus on developing strong conceptual understanding of criminal law, procedural law, evidence law and other important Acts included in the UP APO syllabus.

UP APO Interview or Personality Test

Candidates who qualify for the Main Written Examination are called for the Interview or Personality Test. As per the notification, candidates equal to three times the number of vacancies may be called for the interview.

The Personality Test carries 50 marks. The Commission assesses candidates according to the criteria prescribed in the official notification. Candidates are also required to present the required original certificates for verification at this stage.

UP APO Final Merit List

The UP APO final selection is based on the combined marks obtained in the Main Written Examination and Interview. The Preliminary Examination is primarily used for screening candidates for the Mains stage.

UPPSC prepares the merit list by adding the marks secured by candidates in the written examination and the interview. Therefore, candidates should focus not only on qualifying the Preliminary Examination but also on achieving a strong score in the Main Examination and Personality Test.
After selection, candidates may also be required to undergo document verification and a medical examination as per the applicable rules. Candidates must ensure that all the information and documents submitted during the recruitment process are accurate and valid.

UP APO Selection Process 2026: Minimum Qualifying Standard

The notification prescribes a minimum efficiency standard for candidates. SC and ST candidates must secure at least 35% marks, while candidates belonging to other categories must secure at least 40% marks in the Preliminary and Main Examination to remain eligible for the merit or selection process.

Thus, the UP APO Selection Process requires candidates to perform consistently across the Preliminary Examination, Main Written Examination and Interview.

The UP APO Selection Process 2026 consists of the Preliminary Examination, Main Written Examination and Interview/Personality Test. The Preliminary Examination is used for shortlisting, while the final merit is prepared based on performance in the Main Examination and Interview. Candidates should carefully follow the UPPSC notification for qualifying standards, document verification and other appointment-related requirements.
