Executive MBA Exams, Check Out Exams, Admission Process and Language Test Now

Executive MBA Exams: The Executive MBA (EMBA) entrance exam is called the Executive Assessment (EA). It's a special test for people who have worked a lot and want to get a higher business degree. The exam takes 90 minutes and checks if you're ready for business school. It values the things you already know and the experience you have in the real world. The EA is a quicker and easier test compared to the GMAT , and you don't need to prepare a lot for it.

Executive MBA Exams Overview

After deciding to pursue an Executive MBA, working professionals face a challenging and competitive admission process organized by business schools (B-schools). Unlike the regular two-year MBA admission process, top Executive MBA programs have multiple stages designed to assess the value candidates can bring to the program based on their merit and quality of experience.
  • While work experience is the main eligibility criterion for candidates, entrance exams serve as the link between working executives and the application process for coveted programs. The entrance exam is the initial step in the Executive MBA application, followed by other admission criteria such as Statement of Purpose (SOP), essays, group discussions (GD), or interviews.
If you plan to apply to leading B-schools in India offering Executive MBA programs or management programs for working executives, your first task is to choose the specific B-schools you want to apply to. Subsequently, you need to take the entrance exam accepted by those institutions.

Look at the table above, and you'll see that GMAT is the most commonly accepted exam for many B-schools, especially IIMs. But that doesn't mean Executive MBA entrance exams only use GMAT. Some B-schools, like IIM Kozhikode, IIM Shillong, IIM Rohtak, and others, consider CAT scores too, which stay valid for 3 to 5 years. Certain B-schools, such as IIM Lucknow (for WMP), IIM Kozhikode, IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak, IIM Raipur, IIM Trichy, and MDI Gurgaon, have their own entrance exams. Except for IIM Ranchi, these institutes also accept scores from other entrance exams like GMAT or CAT. For example, IIM Trichy says that candidates with valid scores from either CAT or GMAT don't need to take the institute's entrance exam.

Executive MBA Entrance Exams Language Test

In IIM Bangalore’s EPGP, during the third term, students get a chance to visit countries like China, Russia, Brazil, South Africa, or developed ones in the Asian region like Singapore or South Korea. This module helps them understand the country’s economic, social, political, and cultural aspects. This international immersion program carries 3 credits.

Factors taken into consideration apart from entrance test scores

Getting into Executive MBA programs is not easy. Candidates must meet specific score requirements in entrance exams and set themselves apart from others by showcasing their achievements and explaining why they deserve a spot in the program. IIM Bangalore's EPGP admission panel emphasizes that the selection process is personalized, aiming to understand each applicant's goals and potential for success in management.
  • For Executive MBA aspirants, work experience is a crucial eligibility criterion. The admission committee considers both the number of years and the quality of work experience, focusing on contributions to the company. External certifications, accolades, and references also play a role in the admission process.
  • The Statement of Purpose (SOP) is a document where candidates express their goals and reasons for pursuing the program. It's a vital part of the application, providing insights into the applicant's introspection and life goals.
  • B-schools like IIM Bangalore, Calcutta, and Lucknow require at least two Letters of Recommendation from previous employers. These letters help the committee understand the applicant's contributions to their previous companies and potential value to the program.
  • Essay writing is another important criterion for selection. Alongside the SOP, applicants must submit essays on given topics. Various institutes, including IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Great Lakes Institute of Management, ISB, and FMS Delhi, use essays or Writing Ability Tests (WAT) to assess candidates. The essays offer a deeper understanding of the candidate's experiences, ambitions, and the value they bring.
  • The final step in the selection process is the Personal Interview round. This is a crucial stage where the admission panel assesses candidates' distinct personality traits and determines if they would add value to the program. The interview process is rigorous, probing to ensure that candidates fit well into the one-year program. Personality traits and attitudes are considered alongside academic credentials.
