NSEC 2026: The National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC) is the first stage of India's Chemistry Olympiad programme, conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). The NSEC 2026 centre registration has started from 1 August 2026 and will continue until 20 August 2026, while student enrolment will be conducted from 21 August to 14 September 2026 through iapt.org.in.

The NSEC 2026 examination will be conducted on Sunday, 22 November 2026, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Students qualifying for NSEC become eligible for the Indian National Chemistry Olympiad (INChO), followed by subsequent stages leading to the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO).

NSEC Full Form 

NSEC stands for National Standard Examination in Chemistry. NSEC 2026 is held to test the knowledge and skills of students in Chemistry subject and acts as the first stage of the selection process for the International Olympiads in Chemistry.
The Subjects included in the National Standard Examination in Chemistry are Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry.

The National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC) is a national-level examination conducted for students in Higher Secondary school to identify and nurture young scientific talent in India. The Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) has released the circular, along with the complete schedule, for the registration process for the National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC) 2026. NSEC 2026 Eligibility Criteria 

  • Eligible to hold an Indian passport.
  • Date of birth between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2012 (both dates inclusive).
  • Must be residing and studying in India since 30 November 2024 or earlier.
  • Must be studying in an Indian school system since 30 November 2024 or earlier.
  • Must not have completed or be scheduled to complete Class XII board examination before 30 November 2026.
  • Must not have commenced or plan to commence university studies before 1 June 2027.
  • Must not appear for NSEJS 2026

The NSEC 2026 registration process has officially started. Centre registration is open from 1 August to 20 August 2026, while student enrolment will begin on 21 August 2026 through the official website iapt.org.in.

NSEC 2026 Application Fee

Students have to pay a registration fee of Rs. 300/- to complete the NSEC 2026 Online Registration Process.
This is a one-time fee and students who progress to the next stage and progress further do not have to pay until the final stage. The NSEC 2026 registration fees are non-refundable once paid and mode of payment is online only

  • ₹240 is remitted to IAPT.

NSEC 2026 Exam Date 

The NSEC 2026 examination will be held on Sunday, 22 November 2026, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at designated examination centres across India. Students should report to their allotted centre well before the reporting time and carry the required documents on the examination day.

NSEC 2026 Result

The Indian Association of Physics Teachers releases the NSEC Result 2026 usually in the month of January. The NSEC 2026 Result will be announced by IAPT at the official website - https://www.iapt.org.in/. The toppers of NSEC exams will proceed to the second stage of the Indian National Olympiad (INO) i.e., Indian National Chemistry Olympiad. In order to view the results, students will need to enter their date of birth and password. Do note that the date of birth should be entered in DD/MM/YYYY format.

Is it possible for me to immediately compete in the International Chemistry Olympiad?

No, a student who has not completed the several phases of testing that lead to ICO selection would not be permitted to represent India abroad. If a student wishes to participate in ICO, he or she must first pass the NSEC exam. Students who pass the tests will be allowed to join the training camp.
