For Academic Year 2025-26, the NSEJS 2025-26 is to commence on 23rd November 2025 (Sunday) between 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. The registration for the NSEJS centre will be open from August 1 to August 20, 2025. Following the registration period, student enrollment will take place from August 21 to September 14, 2025. The National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS) is a prestigious Science Olympiad conducted annually in India. It serves as the first stage of the selection process for the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), conducted for the first time in 1987. The NSEJS Syllabus is the CBSE curriculum up to Class X and duration of the NSEJS Exam is 120 Minutes (2 Hours).

NSEJS 2025-26 Exam Date Out

The NSEJS Examination is usually held in the month of November every year. This year NSEJS Examination will be held on 23rd November 2025 at many centers all around the country. Students who qualify this NSEJS Examination are eligible for other successive stages in the International Junior Science Olympiad Programme.  For every wrong answer, there is a penalty of one mark which will be deducted from the marks of the.

The Indian Association of Physics Teachers has declared the NSEJS 2025-26 Exam Date on the official portal iapt.org.en. Your centre will be considered as a test centre for NSEJS 2025, based on the completion of centre verification as well as decision of the committee. A few days before the NSEJS 2025 exam date the NSEJS Admit Card 2025 will be uploaded for the eligible students.

NSEJS Eligibility Criteria 

  • Must be eligible for an Indian passport.
  • High school students who are studying in class 10 or below and are not expected to clear their 10th board exams by 30th November 2025 are eligible to appear for this exam. They can appear as part of their school or on their own.
  • Students must check and verify their eligibility and if found guilty of any unethical conduct that shows that they are not of the required age or qualification, they will be immediately disqualified from the exam.
  • In such cases, even if you pass the first level of the exam, you will be disqualified. Date of birth between 1st January 2011 and 31st December 2012, both dates inclusive.
  • The most important thing to remember here is that the National Standard Junior Science Exam is only for residents of India.
  • In the same year as NSEJS, students cannot appear for any other exams like NSEA (National Standard Examination in Astronomy), NSEB (National Standard Examination in Biology), NSEC (National Standard Examination in Chemistry) or NSEP (National Standard Examination in Physics).

After checking the eligibility criteria, the candidates can apply through the IAPT website and can also pay the fees. NSEJS 2025-26 Application Fee

Students have to pay a registration fee of Rs. 300 to complete the online registration process of NSEJS 2025. This is a one-time fee and students who progress to the next stage and progress further do not have to pay until the final stage, International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO). The NSEJS 2025-26 registration fees are non-refundable once paid.

Stages After NSEJS

There are two stages in the National Standards Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS) Exam and here you can go through the details of each stage-

Stage 1: Every year, over 80,000 people from all over the country take the exam to be shortlisted for the merit list, from which around 300 students are selected based on their performance. If the final position is tied, all students with the same score qualify for the second level test or stage of the exam.

Stage 2: This part of the exam is more difficult and those who qualify will advance to the second stage by achieving 50% of the maximum score or MAS (minimum admissible score). The top 35 candidates from the Indian National Junior Science Olympiad (INJSO) are invited to participate in a two week program. A team of six is ​​then selected to represent India in the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO).

Stage 3: Orientation cum Selection Camp (OCSC) is organized by HBCSE. To train and select students for IJSO through theoretical and experimental test. Top 6 students are selected for IJSO.

Stage 4: Pre-departure Training Camp (PDT) is organized by HBCSE for intensive training before IJSO.

Stage 5: Participation in International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) is the final stage 

NSEJS Exam Pattern 2025-26

The NSEJS Exam typically consists of multiple-choice questions. Here is a detailed look at the National Standard Examination In Junior Scientific Exam Pattern 2025:
  • Number of Questions: The exam consists of 60 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
