As per the Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No: 07/2024, the selection process for the post of Junior Translator will consist of two stages – a Computer Based Test (CBT) followed by a Translation Test. The CBT will be designed to equally assess the candidates' proficiency in both English and Hindi languages. At least 50% of the questions will focus on language skills, with 20% dedicated to English and 30% to Hindi.
Apart from the language section, the remaining part of the CBT will test candidates on General Knowledge, General Intelligence, Simple Arithmetic, and basic computer knowledge. The CBT will be objective in nature and will serve as the primary basis for shortlisting candidates for the next stage.
The Translation Test will not be a part of the main examination but will be conducted separately. Based on the performance in the CBT and following the reservation rules, candidates up to ten times the number of available vacancies will be shortlisted for the Translation Test. This test is only qualifying in nature, and candidates must secure at least 60% marks in it to be considered further.
The final merit list for the Junior Translator post will be prepared solely on the marks obtained in the CBT. However, candidates who fail to qualify the Translation Test with the required 60% marks will be disqualified from the selection process, regardless of their performance in the CBT.
Language plays a central role in this exam. Candidates must possess a high level of proficiency in both Hindi and English. The CBT exam focuses heavily on translation-based grammar, vocabulary, sentence correction, and comprehension.
The exam may also contain questions that indirectly test the candidate’s ability to understand context and effectively translate content, even if it’s not a direct translation task.
