RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test (TST): The Railway Recruitment Board conducts the NTPC exam to recruit candidates for various clerical positions, including Account Clerk Cum Typist and Junior Clerk Cum Typist. An important part of this recruitment process is the  Typing Skill Test (TST). Let’s look into all the essential details about the RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test, including its pattern, requirements, exemptions, and preparation tips.

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test

The Typing Skill Test (TST) is a qualifying test for candidates applying for specific clerical posts in the RRB NTPC recruitment. This test aims to evaluate a candidate’s typing proficiency, ensuring they can efficiently handle clerical tasks requiring fast and accurate typing. It is important to note that the marks obtained in the Typing Skill Test are not added to the final merit list. However, qualifying for this test is mandatory to proceed further in the selection process.

Posts for Which RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test is Conducted

The Typing Skill Test is conducted for the following posts under RRB NTPC recruitment. Candidates applying for these roles must clear the TST to move forward in the selection process.

  • Account Clerk Cum Typist

  • Junior Clerk Cum Typist

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test Vacancy-wise Shortlisting

For the Typing Skill Test, a specific number of candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in the 2nd Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT). The shortlisting ratio is 8 times the number of vacancies for each community. For example, if there are 50 vacancies for Junior Clerk Cum Typist, 400 candidates (8x50) will be called for the Typing Skill Test.

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test Speed Requirement

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test will be conducted on a Personal Computer (PC) without any editing tools or spell-check facilities. This ensures that candidates rely purely on their typing skills without external assistance. Candidates must achieve the following typing speeds to qualify.

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test Speed Requirements
Language Typing Speed
English 30 Words Per Minute (WPM)
Hindi 25 Words Per Minute (WPM)

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test - Guidelines for Hindi Typing

For those opting for Hindi typing, the following fonts will be available on the test computers. Candidates should familiarize themselves with these fonts beforehand, as they will be required to type efficiently using either font during the test.

  • Kruti Dev

  • Mangal

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test - Exemptions for PwBD Candidates

Certain Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are exempted from appearing in the Typing Skill Test. These exemptions apply to candidates with the following disabilities:

  • Blindness/Low Vision

  • Cerebral Palsy

  • Loco Motor Disability (with not less than 40% permanent disability)

To avail of the exemption, eligible PwBD candidates must:

  1. Upload a Typing Skill Test Exemption Certificate issued by the Competent Medical Board.

  2. Ensure the certificate is uploaded to the respective RRB’s website before the test date.

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test - Merit List and Final Selection

It’s crucial to understand that the RRB NTPC merit list is prepared based on the performance in the 2nd Stage of CBT alone. The Typing Skill Test is only a qualifying round. Candidates who fail to qualify in the TST or fail to provide a valid exemption certificate (for PwBD candidates) will not be considered for the final merit list.

Thus, passing the Typing Skill Test is a mandatory hurdle but does not directly influence your final ranking.

How to Prepare for RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test?

Here are some effective strategies to prepare for the TST:

1. Improve Typing Speed and Accuracy: Set daily targets for both speed and accuracy.  Use free online typing tools to practice in both English (30 WPM) and Hindi (25 WPM). Gradually increase your practice time to build endurance for the actual test.

2. Practice on a Personal Computer: Since the TST will be conducted on a PC without editing tools, simulate the test environment by practicing on a basic text editor like Notepad.

3. Learn Hindi Fonts (for Hindi Typing): Download and install Kruti Dev and Mangal fonts on your computer. Practice typing commonly used phrases, official terms, and numerical data.

4. Time Yourself: Use a stopwatch to time your sessions. Aim to maintain both speed and accuracy, as too many errors may impact your performance.

RRB NTPC Typing Skill Test Important Points

The Typing Skill Test is qualifying in nature. Candidates must clear the 2nd Stage CBT to be eligible for the TST. The test will be conducted on Personal Computers without any editing tools. PwBD candidates must upload the TST Exemption Certificate in the required format. Merit lists are prepared solely based on 2nd Stage CBT scores.
