1. What Does Horace Danby Like to Collect?

Horace Danby was a 50-year-old man of integrity. He liked to collect pricey and rare books and lived with a housekeeper because he was single.

2. Why Does He Steal Every Year?

Every year, Horace would break into a safe to purchase the pricey and rare books he loved to collect. Every year he meticulously plotted his activities, stole enough to last a whole year, and used an agent to covertly purchase the books he adored.

3. Who is Speaking to Horace Danby?

A woman who posed as a member of the Shotover Grange household. She wore a crimson outfit and looked lovely. She pretended that if she hadn't returned in time, Horace would have robbed her family.

4. Who is the Real Culprit in the Story?

The real offender was the woman in the red outfit. When Horace came in to rob the house, she pretended to be a member of the family. She fooled Horace and stole everything from the safe. Horace was charged with the crime as she managed to flee without harm.

इसके बारे में सोचें (Think About It)

1. Did You Begin To Suspect, Before the End of the Story, That the Lady Was Not the Person Horace Danby Took Her To Be? If So, at What Point Did You Realize This, and How?

The woman looked surprisingly composed for someone who had just experienced a robbery at her house. Even before Horace Danby had any notion who she was, I had suspicions about her. Instead of phoning the police, which is not often done in such a case, she pretended to have forgotten the numbers to open the safe and urged him to smash it open and remove the diamonds. She was not the person she was claiming to be, as these behaviours made clear right away.

2. What are the Subtle Ways in Which the Lady Manages To Deceive Horace Danby Into Thinking She is the Lady of the House? Why Doesn’t Horace Suspect That Something is Wrong?

A young woman with a gentle voice entered the room as Horace was trying to break into the safe. She presented herself as the lady of the home, and it was immediately clear that she was the one because of her self-assurance and ease when performing commonplace tasks like lighting a cigarette. When Horace saw her, he became afraid. If he was nice to her, he might be able to get out of serious problems.

3. “Horace Danby Was Good and Respectable − but Not Completely Honest”. Why Do You Think This Description is Apt for Horace? Why Can’t He Be Categorized as a Typical Thief?

Fifty-year-old Horace Danby stole from the wealthy to fulfil his desire to purchase pricey and rare books. He was prosperous in his profession of making locks, but he had a bad habit of stealing to pay for his indulgences. He did not steal regularly or for his own survival, so he cannot be classified as a normal thief. He just committed theft to fund his lavish lifestyle, and he employed two individuals to assist him in his company. He was good since he didn't even plot any more robberies, as he had promised the woman.

4. Horace Danby Was a Meticulous Planner but Still, He Faltered. Where Did He Go Wrong and Why?

Although Horace had never failed in a robbery attempt before, he did not sufficiently investigate the true residents of the house this time. He had met the woman in the house on short notice, and he decided it would be best to treat her well to avoid any kind of trouble. Because of this, he was unable to reason, so he followed her directions and became entangled in her scheme. Because he was so nervous, he even opened the safe without donning gloves, leaving fingerprints behind and leading to his capture.

इसके बारे में बात करें (Talk About It)

1. Do You Think Horace Danby Was Unfairly Punished, or That He Deserved What He Got?

Horace did not get an unreasonable penalty. Having never been caught in his prior attempts, he was caught this time around without really stealing anything. He was almost caught this time, having been duped by another thief, as a result of his past actions.

2. Do Intentions Justify Actions? Would You, Like Horace Danby, Do Something Wrong if You Thought Your Ends Justified the Means? Do You Think That There Are Situations in Which It is Excusable To Act Less Than Honestly?

Your acts cannot be justified if they might cause harm to someone, even with the best of intentions. Nobody should be harmed or caused harm by us solely for financial gain. No, I don't believe I would act improperly like Horace did. In situations where there is no harm being done, acting dishonestly can be justified.
