Currently, approximately 12.3 crore (62%) rural households have piped water connections, a significant increase from 3.2 crore (16.6%) in 2019. Five states - Gujarat, Telangana, Goa, Haryana, and Punjab - along with three Union Territories - Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Daman Diu & Dadra Nagar Haveli, and Puducherry - have achieved 100% coverage. Himachal Pradesh at 98.87% and Bihar at 96.30% are also close to achieving saturation in the near future. Since its launch, Jal Jeevan Mission has made significant progress in increasing access to clean water in rural areas. However, challenges such as funding constraints, technical issues, and community resistance remain. With continued efforts and collaboration, JJM aims to achieve its vision of providing safe drinking water to every rural household, improving health, sanitation, and quality of life for millions of people across India.
