Analogies, similarities/differences, spatial visualization, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, decision-making, visual memory, arithmetic reasoning, verbal/non-verbal series, coding-decoding.

General Awareness

Current events, India/history, culture, geography, economics, scientific research, sports, polity, constitution.

English Language & Comprehension

Reading comprehension, fill in blanks, synonyms/antonyms, spellings, idioms/phrases, one-word substitution, sentence improvement, error spotting, active/passive voice, direct/indirect speech, para jumbles.

Tier 2: Skill Test

Steno (English/Hindi): Dictation (Grade C: 100 wpm/10 min; Grade D: 80 wpm/10 min), transcription on computer (English: 40/50 min; Hindi: 55/65 min). Qualifying only.

Steps to Apply Online:

  • Visit the official website – www.ssc.gov.in

  • Locate the "SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2026 Apply Online" link.

  • Register as a new user; provide basic details.

  • Submit registration; a Registration ID will be issued.

  • Log in with your Registration ID and password.

  • Upload photographs and signatures as per guidelines:

  • Photograph size: more than 4 kb and less than 12 kb.

  • Photograph resolution: 100*120 pixels.

  • Signature size: more than 1 kb and less than 12 kb.

SSC Stenographer Selection Process 2026

The SSC Stenographer Selection Process  generally includes two main stages. These stages assess both knowledge and stenography skills. Candidates must clear both for recruitment.

  • There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

  • Minimum percentage of marks for qualifying in the Computer-Based Examination:

  • Dictation for Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 10 minutes at 100 words per minute (w.p.m).

  • Dictation for Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 10 minutes at 80 w.p.m.

  • Transcription time for Stenographer Grade ‘D’ (English): 50 minutes.

  • Transcription time for Stenographer Grade ‘D’ (Hindi): 65 minutes.

  • Transcription time for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ (English): 40 minutes.
