The BPSC Exam Pattern 2026 consists of three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Interview. The Preliminary exam includes one General Studies paper of 150 marks with 150 objective-type questions. Candidates who qualify move to the Mains, which includes General Studies Paper I, General Studies Paper II, Essay, General Hindi (qualifying), and an Optional Subject (qualifying). The final merit list is prepared based on GS Paper I, GS Paper II, Essay, and Interview marks.

Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) conducts the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) to recruit candidates for various Group A and Group B posts in the Bihar Government. New OMR Rule

BPSC has introduced a fifth option (E – Not Attempted) in the OMR answer sheet.

  • Candidates who wish to skip a question must mark Option E.

  • Leaving all options blank attracts 1/3 negative marking.

  • Selecting more than one option is considered an incorrect answer.

This change encourages candidates to mark unanswered questions correctly while filling the OMR sheet.

Qualifying Papers in BPSC Mains

Two papers are qualifying in nature:

General Hindi

  • Maximum Marks: 100

  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: 30%

  • Marks are not added to the final merit list.

Optional Subject

Candidates appearing for the BPSC Mains Examination must choose one optional subject from the list prescribed by the Bihar Public Service Commission. The Optional Subject paper is objective (MCQ) in nature and is qualifying only. Candidates must secure the minimum qualifying marks prescribed for their category, but the marks obtained in this paper are not included in the final merit list.

 BPSC Interview Pattern 2026

The BPSC Interview is the final stage of the selection process and carries 120 marks. Candidates who qualify the Main Examination are called for the Personality Test, where the interview board evaluates their overall personality, communication skills, decision-making ability, leadership qualities, and suitability for administrative services. The final merit list is prepared by combining the marks obtained in the Mains examination and the Interview.

Final Merit List
