  • Ph.D. holders whose Master’s degree was completed on or before 19th September 1991 are eligible for a 5% marks relaxation, regardless of category.

  • For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), the upper age limit is 30 years, with relaxations up to 5 years for reserved categories, women, researchers, and ex-servicemen.

  • There is no age limit for candidates applying for the Assistant Professor role or those seeking admission to Ph.D. programs through UGC NET.

To be considered eligible for the UGC NET History Exam 2025, candidates must hold a postgraduate degree in History from a college or university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The detailed UGC NET Eligibility 2025 criteria for the UGC NET History Exam 2025 are outlined below:

PG Degree: Candidates must have completed a Master's degree in History. General category applicants are required to have secured a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in their postgraduate program. However, candidates belonging to reserved categories such as Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) are granted a relaxation, requiring a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.

Pursuing PG: Individuals who are currently pursuing their final year of postgraduate studies or are awaiting their final results may also apply. However, such candidates must complete their degree requirements within two years from the date of the UGC NET 2025 examination. They are required to produce valid proof of their qualifying marks at the time of result verification; failing to do so will result in disqualification.

PhD Holders: Additionally, candidates who have completed a Ph.D. and obtained their Master’s degree on or before 19th September 1991 are eligible for a relaxation of 5% in the minimum aggregate marks required, irrespective of their category.

UGC NET History Exam Age Limit

Applicants belonging to OBC-NCL (as per the central list available on www.ncbc.nic.in), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and the third gender, as well as all women candidates, are eligible for a relaxation of up to five years.

  • Candidates with documented research experience in the relevant or allied subject of their postgraduate degree may also receive an age relaxation of up to five years, provided they submit an official certificate issued by a competent authority. Additionally, candidates who have obtained an LL.M. degree are granted a relaxation of three years in the upper age limit.

  • Individuals with military service experience may be eligible for a relaxation of up to five years, subject to the duration of their service in the armed forces. It is important to note that there is no upper age limit for candidates applying solely for the Assistant Professor role through the UGC NET. Furthermore, no upper age restriction applies to applicants seeking admission to Ph.D. programs through UGC NET.
