Key Findings
Technical Subjects: Candidates from professional backgrounds like Engineering and Medical Sciences often yield high percentage success rates.
Literature: Hindi Literature continues to show a remarkably high success ratio among its participants.
Humanities: Popular subjects like Geography and PSIR see the highest volume of candidates and maintain stable success rates.
A significant insight from the report is the shift in success patterns between the Preliminary and final selection stages for male and female candidates.
Prelims Stage: Out of approximately 11.35 lakh applicants, 5.75 lakh appeared. Male candidates demonstrated a higher selection rate (2.8%) at this stage compared to female candidates (1.2%).
Mains and Interview Stage: The trend reverses significantly in the final stages. Female candidates who clear Prelims have a 14.8% final selection rate, which is more than double the 6.4% success rate seen among male candidates.
The report dispels myths regarding stream-based biases. Data indicates that Humanities graduates often perform exceptionally well at the interview stage.
Interview Success: Humanities (Arts) graduates achieved a 41.5% selection rate compared to 37% for Engineers.
Post-Graduation Impact: Candidates with a post-graduate degree in Humanities saw a 47% selection rate, while post-graduates in Engineering recorded a 41% success rate.
The report highlights a growing trend in the choice of examination medium and its impact on selection.
English Medium: The number of candidates writing the Mains in English continues to rise annually.
Hindi Medium: While the total number of Hindi medium candidates writing Mains has decreased, those who reach this stage demonstrate a higher percentage selection rate compared to English medium peers. This suggests that the lower absolute number of selections is due to fewer candidates appearing, rather than a lower success capability.
