Stage 1 of UPSC CMS Selection Process 2025

The first stage candidates will face is a written examination, which carries the most weightage in the UPSC CMS Selection Process 2025. The UPSC CMS exam date for the written exam is set for July 20th.  This stage comprises two objective-type papers, each lasting for 2 hours:

Paper I: General Medicine And Pediatrics

  • Subject Focus: This paper tests your knowledge in general medicine and pediatrics. It includes 120 questions that evaluate your understanding of various medical conditions.
  • Division of questions: The General Medicine section has 96 questions while the Paediatrics section has 24 questions.
  • Marks: Paper I is worth 250 marks and has a negative marking of 1/3 marks for each wrong answer.
  • Duration: The exam is typically conducted for 2 hours in the morning shift.

Paper II: Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Preventive and Social Medicine

  • Subject Focus: This paper focuses on surgery, gynaecology, obstetrics, preventive and social medicine, testing your expertise in these specialised fields.
  • Marks: Like Paper I, Paper II is worth 250 marks with a similar negative marking rule.
  • Duration: Paper II is also held for 2 hours. However, this paper is conducted during the afternoon shift.
  • Division of questions: Unlike Paper 1, questions are equally divided in each section of Paper 2.
Scoring well in the written exam is crucial as it determines whether you advance to the next stage. Candidates must be familiar with the syllabus and practice with previous year’s papers and mock tests to excel.

Stage 2 of UPSC CMS Selection Process 2025

After clearing the written examination, candidates move to the personality test stage. This part of the selection process carries 100 marks. Unlike the written test, the interview is not just about your medical knowledge but also about your personality, communication skills, and suitability for the job. Here is what to expect in the Personality Test:
  • Purpose: The personality test evaluates your interpersonal skills, decision-making abilities, and overall suitability for a career as a medical officer.
  • Marks: This stage is worth 100 marks.
  • Interview Panel: The panel usually includes experienced officers and medical professionals.
  • Questions: The questions may range from topics related to your medical expertise to your opinions on current affairs and general topics.

UPSC CMS Document Verification 2025

Document verification is the final step before candidates are formally appointed. It ensures that all information the candidate provides is accurate and that they meet the eligibility criteria for the position. This step is critical for confirming that the candidate is qualified to serve as a medical officer. On their interview day, candidates are required to present the following original documents to confirm their eligibility:
  • Educational Certificates: Proof of your medical qualifications.
  • Age Proof: Birth certificate or other government-issued identification.
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable): For candidates seeking reservations.
  • Identity Proof: Such as an Aadhar card or passport.
  • Work Experience Certificates: For those with prior experience in the medical field and the compulsory rotatory internship completion certificate.
  • Other Relevant Documents: Any additional documents mentioned in the notification.
This way, the UPSC CMS Selection Process 2025 is designed to identify the most capable and dedicated candidates for medical officer roles. It tests candidates on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Aspirants should prepare diligently for each stage to secure their place.
