RRB JE CBT-1 ECE Syllabus 2026

If you are preparing for RRB JE with an Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) background, you may wonder whether you need to study technical ECE subjects for CBT 1. You do not. The RRB JE CBT-1 syllabus is common for candidates from different engineering disciplines.

The RRB JE CBT-1 ECE Syllabus covers four sections: Mathematics, General Science, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and General Awareness. The exam has 100 objective-type questions carrying 100 marks, and the total duration is 90 minutes. Mathematics and General Science have 30 questions each, General Intelligence and Reasoning has 25 questions, and General Awareness has 15 questions.

For ECE candidates, the key point is that Electronics and Communication Engineering topics are not included in CBT 1. The technical syllabus related to your engineering discipline is tested in CBT 2. Therefore, your CBT 1 preparation should focus on the four common sections instead of technical ECE subjects.

RRB JE CBT-1 ECE Exam Pattern

The total time available is 90 minutes. Each question carries one mark. There is also negative marking, with 1/3 mark deducted for every incorrect answer.

The section-wise distribution is indicative, so you should use the official notification as the final reference for the examination. The RRB JE CBT 1 pattern used for the recruitment cycle has four common sections and does not include a separate ECE technical section.

Is ECE Technical Syllabus Included in CBT 1?

No. ECE technical subjects such as electronic devices, digital electronics, communication systems, signals and systems, network theory and other branch-specific topics are not part of the CBT 1 paper.

The technical ability section is included in CBT 2. Therefore, you should divide your preparation according to the stage of the examination. For CBT 1, focus on the four common sections. For CBT 2, prepare the technical syllabus applicable to your qualification.

RRB JE CBT-1 ECE Syllabus

The CBT 1 syllabus for ECE candidates is divided into Mathematics, General Science, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and General Awareness. The major topics are given below.

RRB JE CBT-1 Mathematics Syllabus

The Mathematics section covers basic mathematical concepts and their application in numerical problems. The major topics include:

  • Number Systems

  • BODMAS

  • Decimals

  • Fractions

  • LCM and HCF

  • Ratio and Proportion

  • Percentage

  • Mensuration

These topics are based on the mathematical concepts specified for the RRB JE CBT 1 syllabus.

While preparing Mathematics, first revise the basic formulas and concepts. You can then move to topic-wise questions and previous year questions. Regular practice can help you become familiar with different question formats and improve your calculation speed.

RRB JE CBT-1 General Science Syllabus

General Science covers Physics, Chemistry and Life Science up to the 10th-standard CBSE level. You should revise fundamental concepts from the following areas:

Physics

  • Units and measurements

  • Motion

  • Force

  • Work, energy and power

  • Heat

  • Light

  • Human body and its systems

  • Nutrition

  • Diseases and health

  • Plants

  • Animals

  • Basic life processes

The focus should remain on school-level concepts rather than advanced engineering-level science.

RRB JE CBT-1 General Intelligence and Reasoning Syllabus

General Intelligence and Reasoning tests your ability to identify patterns, relationships and logical connections. The syllabus includes topics such as:

  • Analogies
