RRB JE Exam Pattern 2026 Latest Update

The Railway Recruitment Board has introduced significant changes to the CBT format for JE, DMS, and CMA posts. Here are the critical takeaways:

  • Removal of Section-Wise Partition: The exam will no longer have separate sections for Mathematics, General Intelligence, General Science, and General Awareness.

  • Mixed Question Paper: All 100 questions will appear in a continuous sequence from 1 to 100. Questions from different subjects will be shuffled/mixed.

  • Unpredictable Weightage: Based on the recent RRB ALP 2026 exam trends, the board may not strictly adhere to the subject-wise marks distribution mentioned in the original notification.

  • Source of Update: This change was observed in the mock link/portal update released on February 12, 2026, on the RRB Kolkata official website.

  • Candidate Strategy: Aspirants should be mentally prepared to switch between different subjects rapidly rather than solving them in dedicated blocks.

RRB JE New Normalisation Rule 2026

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has introduced a revised normalisation methodology through an official notice dated 9 February 2026 for all multi-shift examinations such as JE, ALP, NTPC, and others. The updated process adopts a percentile score system based on candidates’ relative performance within their respective shifts to ensure fairness across varying paper difficulty levels. With scores calculated up to five decimal places and clear tie-breaking rules, this new approach aims to eliminate shift-wise advantages and bring greater accuracy and transparency to merit preparation.

RRB Normalisation Process Updated: Key Facts

  • RRB issued an official notice on 9 February 2026 revising the normalisation methodology for multi-shift exams (JE, ALP, NTPC, and others).

  • The new method uses the Percentile Score system based on candidates’ relative performance within each shift.

  • Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 percentile (not percentage marks).

  • The top scorer of every shift will get a 100 percentile for that shift.

  • Percentile formula:
(Number of candidates with raw score ≀ yours Γ· Total candidates in the shift) Γ— 100

  • Percentile scores of all shifts are merged to form the final RRB score for merit preparation.

  • Scores will be calculated up to 5 decimal places to reduce tie cases.

  • Tie-breaking rule:

    1. Higher percentile (up to 5 decimals)

    2. Older candidate (by date of birth)

    3. Alphabetical order of name, if DOB is same

  • A base shift mean and defined formulas are used for inter-shift normalisation to ensure fairness across varying difficulty levels.

This revised process aims to remove shift-wise advantage/disadvantage and make merit preparation more accurate and fair.
