Can You Wear Spectacles?

Yes, spectacles are allowed for certain medical categories, provided your vision falls within the limits prescribed by Indian Railways. For example, A3 allows corrective lenses up to 2 dioptres, while B1 and B2 allow corrective lenses up to 4 dioptres. However, simply wearing glasses does not guarantee medical fitness. You must still meet the prescribed vision standards for your allotted post.

Before appearing for the medical examination, you should also make sure you meet all the other requirements mentioned in the RRB JE Eligibility Criteria 2026, including age and educational qualification.

RRB JE Medical Examination Process

The medical examination is conducted after you complete document verification. It is carried out by authorised Railway Medical Officers to assess whether you are medically fit to perform the duties of the post allotted to you.

During the medical examination, you may undergo:

  • Vision and eyesight examination

  • Colour vision test (for applicable medical categories)

  • Hearing assessment

  • General physical examination

  • Blood pressure and overall health assessment

  • Any additional medical tests considered necessary by the Railway Medical Officer

The purpose of these tests is to ensure that you can safely perform the responsibilities associated with your post in Indian Railways.

What Happens If You Are Found Medically Unfit?

If you do not meet the prescribed medical standard for your allotted post, you may be declared medically unfit by the Railway Medical Officer. In such cases, you will not be appointed to that post. The decision is based on the medical category notified for the post and the standards prescribed by Indian Railways.

In certain situations, Indian Railways may allow a review or appeal against the medical decision as per the applicable recruitment rules. The procedure and eligibility for a re-medical examination, if permitted, are mentioned in the official RRB notification and the instructions issued during the recruitment process. You should carefully follow the guidelines if you wish to request a review.
