Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology in any of the specified disciplines, including Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology or Instrumentation. The degree must be from a recognised university or institute.

Candidates applying for JE Telecom may also be eligible for other posts, including Scientific Assistant in IMD and JE (Electrical), provided they fulfil the respective essential educational qualification.

SSC JE 2026 Eligibility: Scientific Assistant in IMD

The Scientific Assistant post has a broader qualification structure compared with the conventional Civil, Mechanical and Electrical JE posts.

Candidates can qualify through a Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects. Alternatively, candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering or Communication Engineering can apply.

The post carries an upper age limit of 30 years.

SSC JE 2026 Eligibility: Fisheries Department JE Civil

The notification also lists JE (Civil) in the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. Candidates applying for this post must possess either a Degree or a three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised university or institute.

The upper age limit for this post is 30 years.

Existing SSC JE Posts and Qualifications

Apart from the newly included posts, the notification specifies qualifications for Junior Engineers across several government organisations.

For example, the Central Water Commission accepts a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Civil/Mechanical Engineering, while CPWD requires a Diploma in Civil Engineering for JE Civil and a Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering for JE Electrical.

For Border Roads Organisation (BRO), candidates can qualify for JE Civil with a Degree in Civil Engineering or a three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering along with two years of relevant experience. Similar degree/diploma-plus-experience provisions apply to certain other BRO and MES posts.

Experience Requirement for SSC JE 2026

Candidates should pay particular attention to posts where experience is prescribed. The SSC notification states that the required experience must be acquired after completion of the requisite educational qualification.

Internship, training or research experience obtained while pursuing the educational qualification will not be counted as the required experience.

Candidates called for Document Verification must produce original certificates, including marksheets, degree/provisional certificates and experience documents wherever applicable. Failure to establish the required qualification or experience can lead to cancellation of candidature.

SSC JE 2026 Age Limit

The crucial date for determining age is August 1, 2026. For posts with an upper age limit of 30 years, candidates must have been born between August 2, 1996 and August 1, 2008. For posts with an upper age limit of 32 years, the date of birth must fall between August 2, 1994 and August 1, 2008.

Age relaxation is applicable to eligible reserved and other categories as per government rules, including 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC candidates.

SSC JE 2026 Qualification Must Be Held by Closing Date

Candidates must possess the required educational qualification by the prescribed cut-off date. SSC has clarified that the result of the qualifying examination must have been declared by the university/institute by the specified date. Merely having the result under processing will not satisfy the educational qualification requirement.
