The SSC JE 2025 notification initially announced 1,340 tentative vacancies for Junior Engineer posts across various Central Government departments. The Commission also stated that the final post-wise and category-wise vacancies would be published separately on the official website.

After the release of the notification, SSC revised the vacancy count from 1,340 tentative vacancies to 1,731 vacancies, making it one of the largest SSC JE recruitment cycles in recent years.

SSC JE Vacancy 2026 Eligibility

Before applying for SSC JE 2026, candidates must ensure they meet the prescribed educational qualifications, age limit, and other eligibility conditions. The eligibility criteria are expected to remain similar to the previous recruitment cycle, as explained below:

  • Junior Engineer is a Group 'B' Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial post.

  • The post falls under Pay Level-6 of the 7th CPC.

  • Candidates should hold a Degree or Diploma in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from a recognised institution.

  • Some departments may also require relevant work experience.

  • The upper age limit is generally 30 years for most posts and 32 years for CPWD posts.

  • Eligible reserved categories are expected to receive age relaxation as per Government rules.

SSC JE 2026 Exam Pattern 

The SSC JE Vacancy 2026 selection process is expected to follow the same examination pattern as the previous recruitment cycle.

The SSC JE examination consists of two Computer-Based Test (CBT) papers.

  • Paper I includes General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Engineering. It carries 200 marks and has a duration of 2 hours.

  • Paper II includes only General Engineering based on the candidate's engineering stream. It carries 300 marks and is conducted for 2 hours.

Both papers are conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode and contain objective-type multiple-choice questions.

Negative marking is applicable in both papers.

  • Paper I: 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer.

  • Paper II: 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.

Candidates must select their engineering stream, namely Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical, while submitting the application form. The selected stream cannot be changed later.

How to Apply for SSC JE 2026 

Candidates can apply online after the SSC JE 2026 notification is released by following these steps. 

  1. Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) on the official SSC website. Candidates registered on the old SSC portal must complete a fresh OTR on the new website.

  2. Fill in the online application form with correct personal, educational, and communication details.

  3. Upload the live photograph and scanned signature in the prescribed format.

  4. Pay the application fee of ₹100, if applicable. Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD, and eligible Ex-Servicemen categories are exempt from paying the fee.

  5. Review the application form carefully and submit it before the last date.
