The SBI CBO Selection Process 2026 is comprehensive, involving several stages designed to identify the most suitable candidates for the Circle Based Officer role. This rigorous process ensures that only highly qualified individuals are selected for these prestigious positions.
Online Examination: This stage consists of two parts: an Objective Test and a Descriptive Test.
The Objective Test comprises 120 multiple-choice questions for a total of 120 marks, to be completed in 2 hours. It covers English Language, Banking Knowledge, General Awareness/Economy, and Computer Aptitude. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
The Descriptive Test is 30 minutes long for 50 marks, assessing English Language skills through Letter Writing and an Essay.
Screening: After the online examination, a Screening Committee reviews the online applications and documents of qualified candidates. This step verifies if applicants meet the required eligibility and if their job profile aligns substantially with that of a Scale-I Generalist Officer of the State Bank of India.
Interview: Candidates, numbering approximately three times the circle-wise and category-wise vacancies, will be called for an Interview carrying a maximum of 50 marks. Candidates must achieve minimum qualifying marks in the interview for final consideration.
Local Language Proficiency Test: Provisionally selected candidates (based on their performance in the online test, screening, and interview) must undergo a test to confirm their proficiency (reading, writing, and understanding) in one of the specified local languages of the Circle for which they applied. Candidates who fail this test will not be offered an appointment. Those who have studied the opted local language as a subject in 10th or 12th standard are exempt from this test.
The final merit list is prepared by normalizing marks, with 75% weightage given to the Online Test and 25% weightage to the Interview.
