SBI Clerk Exam Pattern 2026 includes the Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Local Language Proficiency Test. The SBI Clerk exam pattern for Prelims and Mains is given separately below, including the sections, number of questions, marks and duration for each stage.
The Preliminary Examination is an online objective test of 100 marks with a duration of one hour.
| Section | Questions | Marks | Duration |
| English Language | 30 | 30 | 20 minutes |
| Numerical Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes |
| Reasoning Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes |
| Total | 100 | 100 | 1 hour |
Each section has a separate time limit. SBI prescribes a penalty of one-fourth of the marks assigned to a question for every wrong answer. No minimum qualifying marks are prescribed for an individual test or the aggregate score in the Preliminary Examination.
The Main Examination consists of 190 questions for 200 marks, with a total duration of 2 hours 40 minutes.
| Section | Questions | Marks | Duration |
| General/Financial Awareness | 50 | 50 | 35 minutes |
| General English | 40 | 40 | 35 minutes |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 50 | 50 | 45 minutes |
| Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude | 50 | 60 | 45 minutes |
| Total | 190 | 200 | 2 hours 40 minutes |
Each section has a separate timing. A penalty of one-fourth of the marks assigned to the question is applicable for wrong answers. SBI does not prescribe minimum qualifying marks for individual subjects in the Main Examination; the qualifying percentage on aggregate is decided by the Bank.
The SBI Clerk selection process has three phases:
The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not added to the final merit list. SBI prepares the final merit based on the aggregate marks obtained in the Main Examination, subject to eligibility verification and the applicable local language requirement.
The merit list is prepared State-wise and category-wise.
Candidates who qualify for selection but have not studied the specified local language in Class 10 or Class 12 have to appear for the Local Language Proficiency Test.
Candidates who fail to qualify the required language test are not offered appointment. Candidates who provide the prescribed Class 10 or Class 12 certificate showing that they studied the specified local language are exempt from the test.
SBI will release the Preliminary and Main Examination call letters through its official website.
The Preliminary Examination call letter is expected to be available approximately 10 days before the examination, while the Main Examination call letter will also be available approximately 10 days before the Main Examination. SBI will not send hard copies of the call letters by post. Candidates need to download their SBI Clerk admit card 2026 through the official SBI website.
SBI has provided a tentative list of examination centres in the notification. Candidates can select their preferred examination centre while submitting the application.
However, SBI can cancel a centre, add another centre or allot a candidate to a centre other than the one selected. Requests for changing the examination centre, date or session will not be entertained.
