  • The candidate must clear the senior secondary examination or 10+2 examination.
  • A candidate who clears entrance examinations, foundation examinations, or professional education is eligible to enroll in the Accounting Technician Course (ATC).
  • A candidate who is registered for intermediate/professional education or intermediate/professional competence is eligible for enrollment.
  • Students who are registered for the Intermediate IPC course without the ATC can also choose to pursue this course.

How to pursue a CA course after Class 12th?

To pursue a CA course after 12th grade, you can follow these steps:

CA Foundation : Begin by appearing for the CA Foundation exam , the first stage of becoming a chartered accountant. This national examination is administered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) every two years. The exam assesses your application, understanding, and knowledge of CA-related subjects. Each exam carries 100 points, and the duration is 180 minutes.

CA Intermediate : You can enroll in the CA Intermediate course after clearing the CA Foundation exam. CA Inter Course is designed to bridge the knowledge gap between the fundamental and advanced levels of the CA course.

It equips students with the necessary technical know-how and fundamental abilities required to become a CA. The intermediate course consists of two CA subject groups, and aspirants can choose to appear for the exams for either one group or both, depending on their performance in the CA Foundation Exam.

CA Final : Once you have successfully completed the CA Intermediate course, you can proceed to the final stage of becoming a chartered accountant. In the CA Final course, you must clear all the subjects in one sitting. If you fail to do so, you will have to retake the exams for the respective subjects. To enroll in the CA Final Course, candidates must pay INR 22,000 (for Indian students) or 1100 US$ (for international students).

CA Exam Course Details

To pursue a career as a CA after completing the 12th grade, follow this step-wise guide:

CPT Route after Class 12th:

  • Register with the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) for the common proficiency test after completing the 12th exam.
  • The test consists of four subjects: Accounts, Law, Economics, and Quantitative Analysis.
  • It is a 200-mark entrance exam, and a minimum score of 100 out of 200 is required to pass.

Register for Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC):

  • Eligible candidates who have passed the CPT and class 12th exams can register for IPCC.
  • Register nine months prior to the first day of the examination month.
  • The CA IPCC exam comprises seven subjects with a total of 700 marks.
  • To clear the exam, a minimum score of 40 marks in each and every subject and an overall score of 50% or above are required.
  • The exam is divided into two categories: the first category includes papers on Accounts, Law, Taxation, Costing, and Finance Management, while the second category consists of tests on Audit, IT and Strategic Management, and Advanced Accountancy.
  • A score of 60 marks or above exempts the candidate from reappearing for that particular paper in the next attempt.

Articleship/Internship:

After clearing the CA IPCC exam, the next step is to undergo a 3-year long training program or internship known as Articleship. This training is conducted under the supervision of a qualified Chartered Accountant.

CA Final Course Registration:

CA Final Course is undertaken during the final 6 months of the 3-year internship program. Upon successfully completing all the exams, the candidate can enrol as a member of ICAI and officially become a Chartered Accountant.

CA Course Fees:

The cost of the entire CA course after 12th is approximately INR 50,000 to 80,000. This includes registration fees, journal fees, orientation course fees, entrance exam fees, and other related charges.

Duration of the CA Course:

  • The CA course after 12th takes a minimum of 4.5 to 5 years to complete.
  • The candidate begins with the CPT/CA foundation course and becomes eligible for IPCC after 9 months.
  • After clearing Group I of IPCC, the candidate can begin the internship.
  • Students have the option to enter the CA course directly after the 12th or pursue the intermediate course after graduation, depending on their preference.

CA Exam Pattern

CA Foundation Papers (Level 1):

The CA Foundation exam consists of four papers, namely Principles & Practices of Accounting (100 Marks), Business Laws & Business Correspondence & Reporting (100 Marks), Business Mathematics, Logical Reasoning & Statistics (100 Marks), and Business Economics and Business and Commercial Knowledge (100 Marks). Each paper carries 100 marks. Students are required to pass each paper individually.

CA Intermediate Papers (Level 2):

The CA Intermediate exam is divided into two groups, with four papers in each group. Students have a total of 12 hours to complete all four papers in each group. The exam is worth 800 marks, with each paper carrying 100 marks. To pass Level 2, students must achieve a minimum of 40% in each paper of Group 1, maintain an overall average of 50% across all four papers, and obtain a minimum of 40% in each paper of Group 2, with a similar 50% overall average for the four papers in that group.

Group 1 of CA Intermediate:

Group 1 of CA Intermediate consists of the following papers: Accounting (100 Marks), Corporate & Other Laws (100 Marks), Cost and management Accounting (100 Marks), and Taxation (100 Marks). Each paper is 100 marks. Students must score at least 40% on each paper and maintain an overall average of 50% across all four papers to pass Group 1.

Group 2 of CA Intermediate:

Group 2 of CA Intermediate comprises the papers Advanced Accounting (100 Marks), Auditing & Assurance (100 Marks), Enterprise Information System & Strategic Management (100 Marks), and Financial Management & Economics of Finance (100 Marks). These papers are also worth 100 marks each. To pass Group 2, students must achieve a minimum of 40% in each paper and maintain an overall average of 50% across all four papers.

CA Final Papers (Level 3):

The CA Final exam is the last level of the CA course and consists of two groups of questions. Students have three hours to complete each of the eight papers. The exam is a total of 800 marks, with each paper carrying 100 marks. To pass the CA Final exam, students must score at least 40% on each paper of both Group 1 and Group 2 and maintain an average of 50% in Group 1 & another 50% in Group 2.

Group 1 of CA Final:

Group 1 of CA Final includes the papers Financial Reporting (100 Marks), Advanced Auditing & Professional Ethics (100 Marks), Strategic Financial Management (100 Marks), and Corporate and Economic Laws (100 Marks). Each paper is worth 100 marks. Students must score at least 40% on each paper and maintain an average of 50% across all four papers to pass Group 1.

Group 2 of CA Final:

Group 2 of CA Final comprise the papers Strategic Cost Management & Performance Evaluation (100 Marks), Advanced Management Accounting (100 Marks), Direct Tax Laws & International Taxation (100 Marks), and Indirect Tax Laws (100 Marks). These papers are also worth 100 marks each. To pass Group 2, students must achieve a minimum of 40% in each paper and maintain an overall average of 50% across all four papers.

CA Syllabus
