ABOUT COKE
Coke is a solid carbonaceous residue derived from low-ash, low sulphur bituminous coal from which the volatile constituents are driven off by baking in an oven without oxygen at temperatures as high as 1,000 °C (1,832 °F) so that the fixed carbon and residual ash are fused together.
COAL TAR:
Coal tar is a brown or black liquid of extremely high viscosity, which smells of naphthalene and aromatic hydrocarbons. Coal tar is among the bi-products when coal is carbonized to make coke or gasified to make coal gas. Coal tars are complex and variable mixtures of phenols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and heterocyclic compounds, about 200 substances in all.
COAL GAS:
Coal gas is obtained during the processing of coal to get coke. It is used as a fuel in many industries situated near the coal processing plants.
