Making one A requires 2 hours of machine time and 3 hours of labor, while one B needs 3 hours of machine time and 1 hour of labor. In a day, the factory has a maximum of 12 hours of machine time and 9 hours of labor. If the profit from each A is $50 and from each B is $40, the factory wants to know how many of each to make for maximum profit. We'll say: x = number of A units y = number of B units To maximize profit (Objective Function Z), we aim to maximize: Z = 50x + 40y There are some rules to follow:
  • 2x + 3y ≤ 12 (machine time constraint)
  • 3x + y ≤ 9 (labor time constraint)
  • x ≥ 0 and y ≥ 0 (products can't be negative)
With CBSE Class 12 linear programming , we plot these rules on a graph, find the possible area, and then see which point in that area gives the best profit. This solution tells the factory how many of each product to make to earn the most profit while using its resources wisely.

Constraints:

These are limitations on your decision variables due to resources or capacity. They're expressed as linear inequalities or equations involving the decision variables, defining valid solutions to the problem. For instance, x + y ≤ 20 means the sum of x and y can't go over 20.

Non-Negative Restrictions:

Added to ensure decision variables can't be negative, as negative values often don't make sense in real-world situations. Mathematically, x ≥ 0 and y ≥ 0 show these non-negative restrictions.
