- The minimum required marks for eligibility are 55% (without rounding off) for general candidates and 50% for SC/SC(A)/ST/PwD/Third Gender category candidates in their Master's Degree or equivalent examination from UGC-recognized universities/institutions.
- Those currently pursuing their Master's degree or awaiting results can apply provisionally, provided they complete their degree within two years from the date of the TN SET result with the required percentage of marks.
- Ph.D. degree holders who completed their Master's Level examination by 19th September 1991 are eligible for a 5% relaxation in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) for TN SET.
- Candidates with post-graduate diplomas/certificates from foreign universities must verify the equivalence of their diplomas/degrees/certificates with Master's degrees of recognized Indian universities from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi (www.aiu.ac.in).
