UPSC CAPF Vacancy 2024

UPSC CAPF Vacancy 2024: Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) is an exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This exam is held once a year to recruit candidates for the post of Assistant Commandant (Group A) in different sectors. Indian candidates with a bachelor’s degree are eligible to appear in this exam.

  1. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
CISF is the organization of federal police that comes under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs. This job role of CAPF ensures the security of over 356 industrial units, including 13 private sectors as well. Moreover, they are also responsible for guarding government infrastructure projects, facilities, and establishments across the different locations of the country. These government projects include

  • Oil fields and refineries
  • Atomic power plants
  • Fertilizer units
  • Airports
  • Hydroelectric/thermal power plants

  • Steel plants
Additionally, they also play a major contribution to disaster management. There is a specific ‘Fire Wing’ formed. The role of the fire wing is to assist in case of accidents caused by fires in Industries. Their motto is ‘Protection and Security’.
  1. Border Security Force (BSF)
The Border Security Force (BSF) is the border guarding organization on its boundary with Bangladesh and Pakistan. BSF was raised during the 1965 war “for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for the matters connected therewith”. BSF is the only among all CAPFs which have Air Wing, Water Wing and an Artillery Regiment. At the present time, BSF is the world’s largest border-guarding force. They are termed the ‘first line of defense’ of Indian territories.

  1. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
The primary role of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is to assist State/Union Territories in police operations. Thus, they are responsible for maintaining law & order and counter-insurgency. Established on 27th July 1939, its motto is ‘service and loyalty’. There are some special units formed that come under CRPF. The name of these units is

  1. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)
Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) is also known as the Armed border force. They are the border guarding force of the nation which is deployed with the borders of Bhutan and Nepal. It was established on 20th Dec 1963. Its motto is ‘Service, Security and Brotherhood’. Formerly, it was named the Special Service Bureau. The aim of establishing SSB is to strengthen the border areas of the country against enemy operations. In the present day, SSB is actively working to prevent cross-border crime and smuggling. Moreover, they are also working against other anti-national activities.
  1. Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
ITBP is the organization of border patrol of India. It is deployed within its borders with the Tibet Autonomous Region. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police were established in 1962 after the Sino-Indian War happened in the same year. Its motto is ‘Valour - Steadfastness and Commitment’. The reason for the establishment of ITBP is ‘for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected therewith’.
