GATE RA Nationality Criteria

Both Indian citizens and foreign nationals can apply for the GATE RA paper. Candidates who have completed or are pursuing their qualifying degree from outside India must be in the third year or above of their degree programme. They can also apply if they have completed a bachelor's degree of at least three years in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities.

However, all candidates, including foreign nationals, must appear for the exam at a test centre in India. GATE 2027 will not have any exam centres outside India.

GATE Robotics and Automation Age Limit

As per the official GATE 2027 eligibility norms:

  • There is no minimum age to apply for GATE RA.

  • There is no maximum age to apply for GATE RA.

  • Candidates of any age can appear, as long as they meet the required educational qualification.

GATE RA Educational Qualification

Candidates applying for GATE RA must be studying in the third year or higher of a government-approved degree programme or must have already completed a government-approved degree. This eligibility rule applies to all GATE 2027 papers and allows students to apply from the third year itself.

Although candidates from all eligible disciplines can apply, the GATE RA paper is particularly useful for students from areas such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Mechatronics.

Candidates with a qualification higher than the minimum required level are also eligible if they meet the other conditions mentioned in the official GATE 2027 Information Brochure.

GATE RA Eligibility – Documents Required

Applicants need to keep the following documents ready while filling out the GATE RA application form:

  • Candidates who have already completed their qualifying degree must upload their degree certificate, provisional degree certificate, course completion certificate, or an equivalent document from their institute.

  • Candidates whose degree is still in progress must submit a provisional certificate letter issued by the Head of the Institute, Dean, Registrar, or Head of Department.

  • Candidates applying under category-based reservations must upload valid supporting certificates as applicable.

  • PwD candidates must upload a valid disability certificate issued by a recognised authority.
