UPSC ESE Marking Scheme 2024- The UPSC ESE Exam Pattern contains information regarding the duration of the examination, the number of papers, and the kind of questions asked. Every year, the UPSC publishes the ESE exam pattern and syllabus in the form of a pdf notification. It describes in detail the three stages of the examination, namely Prelims, Mains, and Interviews.

According to the UPSC ESE Exam Pattern, applicants with a bachelor's degree from an AICTE/ UGC-approved college are eligible to take the IES examination. The official ESE PDF notification announced a thorough explanation of the ESE exam pattern 2024 for the UPSC ESE Prelims and Mains examinations.

UPSC ESE Marking Scheme 2024

The Union Public Service Commission stated the IES 2024 exam pattern in the official IES 2024 notification. The Commission did not alter the IES Exam Pattern, thus applicants should not be concerned. On September 6, 2023, the UPSC IES 2024 notification was issued. The IES 2024 will be held on February 18, 2024, by the Commission. In the official notification, the Commission mentioned important UPSC ESE Syllabus subjects.

Because the Commission issued the IES 2024 application form along with the announcement on September 6, 2023, the deadline to apply for the examination was September 26, 2023. In addition to the other rules and regulations, the Commission announced the IES 2024 examination dates.

Candidates who pass the UPSC ESE 2024 preliminary exam will be eligible to take the main examination. The number of candidates chosen to take the UPSC ESE Main examination is 6 to 7 times the number of seats available. UPSC ESE Exam 2024 follows the official syllabus outlined in the official notification.

Following the successful completion of the written test, the UPSC will publish a list of qualified applicants. In the IES examination, negative marking is permitted. The UPSC ESE (IES) 2024 syllabus is detailed in the official notification. Candidates must prepare for all topics included in the preliminary and main exams.  The following is the marking scheme:

  • There are four answer options; for each incorrect answer, one-third of the marks awarded to that question will be deducted.
  • If the applicant picks more than one choice as their solution, the case will be considered incorrect and will be subject to negative marking.
  • There will be no negative marking if there is no answer to the question.

UPSC ESE Marking Scheme 2024 - Negative Marking

According to the UPSC IES test format, applicants will receive two marks for each right answer during the preliminary round, with one-third of their marks deducted for erroneous responses. There will be descriptive-type questions on the UPSC ESE main exam, with 60 marks awarded for each right answer. There will be no negative evaluations. However, illegible handwriting may result in a 5% penalty.

Mains - There is no negative marking in the UPSC ESE Mains Exam.

Interview- No negative marking, Candidates who achieve the Commission's minimum cut off marks will be invited to take the Personality test. The number of candidates contacted for the Personality Test will be almost double the number of openings filled through this recruitment. Candidates will be evaluated on their leadership abilities, initiative and intellectual curiosity, tact and other social traits, physical and mental vitality, practical application abilities, and character integrity during the Personality Test. This exam will be worth 200 marks.

What is the UPSC ESE Marking Scheme 2024?

The UPSC ESE Prelims Exam is worth 500 marks, while the Main exam is worth 600 marks. During the interview, candidates might receive up to 200 marks.

.Is there any negative marking for the UPSC ESE (IES) 2024 exam?

Yes, there will be negative grading in the test, according to the IES exam structure. However, only the Preliminary test will have negative marking on both papers at this moment. There will be no negative marking in any of the papers in the Mains test. The interview stage also has no negative grading scheme.

Is there a final merit list in the interview and mains round?

Yes, marks from the Interview round and Mains stage are incorporated in the final merit list. The Prelims stage is just qualifying and has no bearing on the final merit list. Performance in the Mains and Interview stages, on the other hand, has a direct impact on the final merit list.

Can candidates write a paper in hindi according to the ESE exam pattern?
