Eligibility Criteria for IRMS Exam 2025

In order to be eligible for IRMS Exam 2025, candidates must meet the eligibility criteria discussed below:

IRMS Exam 2025 Nationality

The nationality of applicants for IRMS Exam 2025 should be as follows:

(a) a citizen of India, or

(b) a subject of Nepal, or

(c) a subject of Bhutan, or

(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or from Vietnam to permanently settle in India.

Candidates must have a valid document or certificate issued by the Govt. Of India in support of their nationality.

Educational Qualification for IRMS Exam 2025

Candidates must possess the minimum educational qualification to be eligible for IRMS 2025:

• Full-time regular BE/B. Tech degree in Civil / Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from a recognized University or Institute. OR
• Passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India); or
• Completed degree or diploma in Engineering from a foreign college or university that is acceptable in India; or
• Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or
• Passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers London held after November, 1959.

Age Limit for IRMS Exam 2025 (as on 01.01.2025)

The age limit of candidates for IRMS Exam 2025 should be between 18 to 30 years as on 01.01.2025. Applicants should have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1995 and not later than 1st January, 2004. However, the upper age limit would be relaxable 3 years for OBC (NCL), 5 years for SC/ST, 10 years for PwBD and as per the govt. norms for other categories.

IRMS Exam 2024 Selection Process

The selection procedure for Indian Railways Management Services (IRMS) involves three stages namely prelims exam, mains exam, and personality test. Candidates need to pass all these stages subsequently to secure the final selection. A detailed selection process is outlined below:

• Preliminary Exam - The UPSC ESE Preliminary exam consists of two papers for a total of 500 marks. The exam will be conducted offline. Paper 1 will have questions on General Studies and Aptitude & Paper 2 will consist of questions related to the concerned discipline. The time duration for Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be 2 hours and 3 hours respectively. Moreover, the exam will have a negative marking of 1/3 mark for incorrect answers.
• Mains Exam - The main examination will also have two papers from the concerned subjects carrying 300 marks each. Candidates will get a time duration of  hours to attempt each question paper.
• Personality Test - Those who clear prelims and mains exam will be called for a personality test. This stage aims to assess the candidate's problem-solving skills, technical knowledge, and academic abilities. The personality test covers a weightage of 200 marks.
