JEE Main Tie-Breaking Rules

NTA prepares JEE Main merit list/rank based on their percentile scores. In case, there is any tie between two or three candidates, NTA follows the below-given order to rank the candidates
  • Candidates securing higher percentile scores in Mathematics in the test.
  • Candidates securing higher percentile scores in Physics in the test.
  • Candidates securing higher percentile scores in Chemistry in the test.
  • Candidates older in age are preferred.

Why JEE Mains Result Announced in Percentile?

The JEE Main Exam is conducted in different shifts on more than one date. There are more than one set of paper, some set of papers are more hard as compared to others. Candidates who get the hard set of paper are expected to score lower marks in the JEE Main exam which tends to be unfair. However, the NTA uses the percentile method to ensure that there is equality while calculating the JEE Main score.
