So, knowing how your score translates into a percentile helps you analyze your relative performance. Therefore, understanding the correlation between IPMAT scores and percentiles is key for those planning to pursue a management education path in 2024.

IPMAT Score Vs Percentile 2024 - Overview

The IPMAT Score vs Percentile comparison holds significant importance for students aiming to secure admission in the Integrated Program in Management (IPM) offered by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in 2024. The IPMAT exam structure for 2024 involves three sections: Quantitative Ability (MCQs), Quantitative Ability (short answer questions), and Verbal Ability (MCQs). With a total marking scheme of 400, candidates earn 4 marks for each correct answer while facing a deduction of one mark for every incorrect response. Note: A total score exceeding 300 is considered commendable, and notably, there is no specific cutoff for individual sections; admission decisions are based on the overall score.

What is the IPMAT Score?

The IPMAT (Integrated Programme in Management) is a test by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for getting into their management programs. Whether your score in IPMAT is good depends on how hard the test is and the cutoffs set by the institute. Generally, if you score over 230, it's seen as good, and if you go beyond 300, that's excellent. A score of 200 out of 360 is considered okay, but it doesn't guarantee you a spot in an IIM . The IPMAT test has three parts:
  • Verbal Ability (Multiple Choice),
  • Quantitative Ability (Multiple Choice),
  • and Quantitative Ability (Short Answer).
A good score range is between 230-260 marks. In each section, good scores are around 128-136 marks for Verbal Ability (MCQ), 72-80 marks for Quantitative Ability (MCQ), and 200-230 marks for Quantitative Ability (Short Answer).
  • If you want a good chance at getting into IIM Indore , aiming for a minimum IPMAT score of 230 is a good idea.
Section Score Range (Marks) Score Interpretation
Total Score 0-360
  • < 200: Poor,
  • 200-229: Okay,
  • 230-259: Good,
  • 260-300: Excellent,
  • > 300: Outstanding
Verbal Ability (MCQ) 0-192 128-136: Good
Quantitative Ability (MCQ) 0-80 72-80: Good
Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) 0-88 200-230: Good

What is the IPMAT Percentile?

The IPMAT (Integrated Programme in Management) Percentile does not refer to a specific cutoff score. Instead, it denotes the division of scores into percentiles, providing candidates with a relative ranking for comparison with others. In the context of IPMAT, percentiles play a prime role in shortlisting candidates for subsequent stages of the admission process, such as the Personal Interview (PI).
Using percentiles helps make sure everyone is treated fairly and evaluated in a consistent way in the IPMAT (Integrated Programme in Management). This way, institutions can find students who did exceptionally well compared to their classmates. It makes the assessment process more competitive by not just looking at the scores you got but also how well you did compared to others. So, it's not just about getting good scores; it's about doing better than the other students too.

Steps to Calculate IPMAT Score

To find your IPMAT score, do the following steps:
  1. For each correct answer, you get four marks. But for each wrong answer, one mark is taken away from your total score.
  2. Your raw score is then adjusted to calculate the composite score using these formulas:
    • For the Quantitative Section (MCQ): 25×(Candidate’s Score−Minimum Score/Maximum Score−Minimum Score)
    • For the Quantitative Section (SA): 25×(Candidate’s Score−Minimum Score/Maximum Score−Minimum Score)
    • For the Verbal Ability Section: 50×(Candidate’s Score−Minimum Score/Maximum Score−Minimum Score)
  3. The maximum and minimum scores are the highest and lowest scores obtained in the respective sections by candidates from the eligible pool.

    1. Calculate Composite Score:
      • First, calculate the raw score by awarding four marks for each correct answer and deducting one mark for each incorrect answer.
      • Use the following formulas for Quantitative Section (MCQ) and Quantitative Section (SA) scores:
  • Quantitative Section (MCQ) Section Scores: 25×(Candidate’s Score−Minimum Score / Maximum Score−Minimum Score)
  • Quantitative Section (SA) Section Scores: 25×(Candidate’s Score−Minimum Score / Maximum Score−Minimum Score)
    • The maximum and minimum scores are the highest and lowest scores obtained in respective sections by the candidates from the eligible pool.
  1. Calculate Percentile:
    • Once the composite score is obtained, calculate the percentile using the formula:
Percentile= (Total number of candidates/Number of candidates who scored less than the candidate)×100
