AIBE Exam Eligibility 2025: The Bar Council of India (BCI) will release the official AIBE 20 notification regarding the AIBE Exam Eligibility 2025 along with the admission process. The AIBE Exam Eligibility 2025 consists of minimum requirements such as educational qualification, nationality, age limit, and enrollment with the state bar council, necessary to obtain the Certificate of Practice (COP) to practice law in India. Candidates are required to adhere to the AIBE eligibility criteria before appearing for the exam.

AIBE Exam Eligibility 2025 Overview

AIBE Exam Eligibility 2025 remains the same compared to the previous years. Only candidates who fulfill the AIBE Exam eligibility criteria are allowed to appear for the exam. AIBE 20 Exam Eligibility 2025

The AIBE Exam Eligibility 2025 includes minimum requirements that are mandatory to appear for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). These include minimum academic qualification, age limit, nationality, etc, essential to obtain COPs for practicing law in India. The AIBE Exam Eligibility is the parameters that candidates must fulfill in order to appear for the exam. The AIBE Exam Eligibility 2025 is discussed below.

AIBE 20 Age Limit

There is no lower or upper age limit for the AIBE 20 exam 2025. Fresh graduates or established licensed lawyers, both are eligible for the exam without any bars. Applicants of all ages can apply for the AIBE 20 exam as long as they fulfill other eligibility criteria, such as having a law degree from any recognised university and their name registered with the State Bar Council.

AIBE 20 Nationality

Aspirants applying for the AIBE 20 exam 2025 must be citizens of India. As long as candidates fulfill other AIBE Exam eligibility criteria 2025, there are no restrictions on them from applying for the post from other parts of the country.

AIBE 20 Educational Qualifications

Candidates appearing for the AIBE 20 exam must have a 3-year or 5-year law degree from a university recognised by the Bar Council of India (BCI). However, candidates must clear the AIBE exam within 2 years of completing their graduation, otherwise, they have to re-register with the State Bar Council.

AIBE 20 Exam Number of Attempts

According to the AIBE Exam Eligibility 2025 prescribed by the BCI, there are unlimited attempts permissible. As long as candidates meet the other AIBE Exam Eligibility, they are allowed to take the exam as many times as necessary to clear the exam. However, candidates have to qualify for the AIBE exam within 2 years of provisional enrollment with the State Bar Council.

AIBE 20 Eligibility for Physically Challenged/Disabled Candidates

The academic eligibility for AIBE aspirants is the same for physically challenged or disabled candidates. Such candidates have to ensure they possess the following certificates to avail the benefits.

  • A disability certificate issued by a medical authority
  • The Certificate of Disability must specify 50 per cent or more disabilities within specified categories of amputated arms, blindness, or any other physical incapability.

There is a prerequisite that if candidates want to increase their exam duration by 20 minutes per hour, they are allowed an extra time of one hour for AIBE exam duration.

AIBE Exam Minimum Qualifying Marks For Obtaining COP (Certificate Of Practice)

As prescribed by the Bar Council of India (BCI), candidates appearing for the AIBE exam have to obtain minimum qualifying marks to be awarded a Certificate of Practice (COP). The minimum qualifying marks needed to obtain the COP (Certificate of Practice) are mentioned below.

  • Candidates belonging to the General/ OBC category have to score at least 40% marks out of the total scores of the AIBE exam.
  • Candidates of SC/ST/PwD category should obtain a minimum of 35% marks in the exam.

According to the Bar Council of India, there are no minimum marks required to appear in the AIBE exam. However, candidates are required to score a minimum percentage of grades in their law degree as stated by the university for further education.

AIBE Exam Eligibility Enrollment with the State Bar Council

The AIBE 20 Exam is a pre-enrollment exam. Candidates must enroll themselves as Advocates with the State Bar Council. It is a one-time enrollment. Once enrolled, candidates can appear for the AIBE exam multiple times. However, the provisional enrollment is valid for 2 years to become as Advocate. If the candidates clear the AIBE exam after the expiry of 2 years, they have to again enroll as an Advocate with the State Bar Council.

Note: According to the recent directions issued by the Supreme Court of India, candidates who are currently in their final semester of a 3-year or 5-year integrated LLB degree course with no backlogs in previous semesters are now allowed to appear for the AIBE 20 Exam 2025. Such candidates can sit for the upcoming AIBE exam without the enrollment certificates.

AIBE Exam Eligibility 2025 Exemptions

Candidates who have completed their 3-year or 5-year law degree before 2009-2010, are exempted from the exam. These candidates can practice law without the Certificate of Practice (COPs). Candidates who graduated in 2008 or earlier, and enrolled later (irrespective of the year of enrollment), don't need to take the AIBE exam. For candidates graduating from the academic year 2009-2010 onwards, the AIBE exam is compulsory to practice law in India.

Candidates must also be aware of the following key points along with the AIBE Exam Eligibility 2025.
  • Candidates belonging to reserved categories are required to upload their caste, tribe, disability, and other relevant certificates during the registration process.
  • To clear the AIBE Exam, candidates must obtain more than AIBE cutoff marks for the particular category.
  • Only registered advocates with the State Bar Council are eligible for the AIBE exam.
