1. Essential Educational Qualifications:

As per Rule 06 of the Uttarakhand Judicial Service (First Amendment) Regulations, 2006, a candidate must have:

  • A Bachelor of Law from:

    • A University established by Law in Uttarakhand, or

    • Any University in India recognised by the Governor for this purpose.

  • Proficiency in Hindi in the Devanagari script.

  • Basic knowledge of Computer operations.

2. Age Limit (As of 01 January 2025):

  • Minimum Age: 22 years

  • Maximum Age: 35 years

  • Age relaxation is available for:

    • SC/ST/OBC and other categories as per government rules.

    • Divyang (PwD) candidates.

    • Women candidates, under horizontal reservation.

    • Other relaxations as notified by the Uttarakhand Government from time to time.

3. Age Relaxation:

  • Age relaxations are applicable as per the Uttarakhand Government orders for various reserved categories.

  • OBC certificates must follow the format issued on or after 26 February 2016, with validity up to 3 years.

  • For Divyang (PwD) candidates, 40% disability is mandatory with proper certification.

  • Women candidates benefit from horizontal reservation under the Uttarakhand Lok Seva (Mahilao ke liye Arakshan) Adhiniyam, 2022.

4. Domicile/Nativity Requirement:

Candidates must fulfill any of the following:

  • Be a permanent resident of Uttarakhand.

  • Be domiciled in India, but should have permanent residence proof in Uttarakhand.

  • Have relevant documentation (like domicile/nativity/residency certificate) issued by the competent authority.

5. Character:

  • Must have good moral character suitable for government service.

  • No record of criminal activities, misconduct, or moral turpitude.

6. Marital Status:

  • A male candidate with more than one wife living is not eligible.

  • A female candidate married to a man who already has a wife living is not eligible, unless specific government permission has been granted.

7. Physical Fitness:

  • Candidates must be in good mental and physical health.

  • medical fitness certificate issued by a competent medical board is mandatory.

8. Training (if applicable):

  • Selected candidates may undergo mandatory training before final posting.

  • The state government reserves the right to decide training requirements.

Preliminary Examination

The Prelims Exam is objective in nature and consists of two parts—General Knowledge and Law. It tests candidates on their legal knowledge, recent developments in the legal field, and basic understanding of international law. There is negative marking of 1/4th marks for incorrect answers.

Mains Examination
