CLAT NLUs Consortium: The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) conducts the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for admission to UG and PG courses at various NLUs in India. Formed on August 19, 2017, the CLAT Consortium was established to advance legal education in India and promote better coordination among all NLUs. Over the years, the CLAT NLUs Consortium has ensured the smooth conduct of the CLAT examination and admissions process for aspiring law students.
The Consortium of NLUs is a group of 24 National Law Universities, with 2 additional universities added from CLAT 2025 onwards. RPNLU Prayagraj and IIULER Goa are the new NLUs added to the list.

24 National Law Universities came together to form the CLAT NLUs Consortium. It is responsible for ensuring the smooth conduct of the CLAT entrance exam for admission to law programs. With this streamlined process, today, many NLUs have become equivalent to prestigious IITs for engineering and IIMs for management. The Consortium has raised the bar for legal education in India over a period of time.
Different National Law Universities used to conduct CLAT entrance exams each year on a rotational basis. To manage this chaotic process and streamline it, on 19 August 2017, 18 NLUs came together and formed the Consortium of National Law Universities, known as CLAT NLUs Consortium. Time passed, and 4 new National Law Universities came and joined the Consortium. This way, prominent NLUs came under one roof to conduct CLAT. Today, except NLU Delhi, all other NLUs have become a part of the Consortium with NLU Tripura and GNLU Silvasa joining the bandwagon.
The following are the prominent member universities of the CLAT NLUs Consortium. Seat matrix for each National University is also provided along with law courses offered. Admission to these universities is based on the CLAT scorecard.
The following table mentions the names of the esteemed members who govern the CLAT NLUs Consortium. This core group oversees the administration and management of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The members are selected with due diligence and an intensive scrutiny process.
During the Annual Governing Body meeting of the Consortium of NLUs for CLAT 2025, held on February 17, 2024, in Silvassa, a new executive committee was elected to oversee the upcoming CLAT exam. The new appointments are listed below.
For CLAT 2025, Consortium of NLUs has revised the CLAT exam pattern. The CLAT syllabus remained unchanged. The total number of questions was reduced to 120 from 150 to make it more candidate-friendly. Earlier in 2020, there were drastic changes in the CLAT exam pattern and syllabus. Comprehension-based questions were added to the syllabus, evaluating candidates’ reading and critical skills.
