Professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and lecturers are significant parts of the faculty. Out of these, 32 serve as regular faculty and 34 as non-permanent staff. The faculty-to-student ratio stands at about 1:12, which is significantly better than the Bar Council of India’s mandated ratio of 1:40 under the Rules of Legal Education 2020. This ratio determines that the university provides quality education and robust learning to its students.
According to the data provided by the NUJS in the NIRF 2025 report, the overall expenditure has reduced. Salary expenses have decreased nearly 24%, falling from Rs 22.71 crore in 2021 to Rs 17.23 crore in 2023. Similarly, spending on maintaining academic facilities and infrastructure was reduced by around 45%, indicating careful cost management.
Contrary to this, the expenditure on moot courts, conferences, workshops, etc, rose by 3x, i.e., from Rs 39.75 lakh to Rs 1.24 crore in 2023. The university has surpassed NLU Delhi, which spends Rs 79.80 Lakh on moot courts, seminars, and conferences. The operational spending of the NUJS over the years is provided below:

WBNUJS had 30 sponsors in the academic year 2023-24, funded by 23 different agencies. The university secured research funding totalling Rs. 4.47 crore during this period. This is a significant increase and nearly four times the Rs. 1.34 crore received in the 2019-20 fiscal year. The increased sponsor research reflects WBNUJS’s expanding research capacity and its impact as a legal education college.
NUJS has gradually increased its 5-year LLB intake from 127 students in 2019-20 to 196 in 2023-24. This growth is largely due to the launch of a new BSc LLB program in 2023-24, which combines law with forensic science and criminology.
Among the top National Law Universities (NLUs), only NLSIU Bangalore has expanded its intake more rapidly, increasing its BA LLB seats from 180 in 2022 to 310 in 2025 as part of a planned expansion. Contrary to this, NLU Delhi has shown the slowest growth, with its intake rising modestly from 83 in 2019 to 123 in 2023-24.
