NLUs College list in India

NLUs College list in India: National Law Universities (NLUs) are public law institutions in India founded by the Bar Council of India in accordance with second-generation legal education reforms. NLUs are the go-to choice for law enthusiasts because many are ranked among the best law colleges by NIRF Rankings. The Ministry of Education releases these rankings yearly, providing aspiring law students insights into the top colleges.

If you're into law, you're likely familiar with National Law Universities (NLUs) like NLSUI Bangalore, NALSAR, and NLU Delhi—leading institutions that have shaped some of the brightest legal minds. During application season, there's a frenzy to secure a spot in these NLUs. However, gaining admission is no walk in the park, especially for the older, prestigious ones. They receive a staggering number of applications, and their entrance exams, particularly the CLAT exam (except for NLU Delhi, which conducts the AILET Entrance Exam separately), are challenging. For 2025 admissions, the CLAT exam took place on December 1, 2024, determining entrance to 25 NLUs across the country.

NLU (National LAW University) Overview

National Law Universities , frequently referred to as NLU s, are the most well-known legal institutions in the country. India now has 26 national law universities. NLU Tripura (2022) , NLU Meghalaya (2023) , and GNLU Silvassa (2022) are the new NLUs. National law universities (NLUs) are regarded as the forerunners of legal education in India. These institutions provide integrated LLB , LLM , and PhD programmes. Some NLUs also provide numerous certification programmes. NLSIU Bengaluru is the only NLU that offers a three-year LLB programme for students who have finished their bachelor's degree. Admission Through CLAT

The Common legal Admission Test , or CLAT , is a prominent legal entrance exam. It is conducted around the country in pen and paper style. CLAT application forms are normally distributed in the first week of January, with the entrance exam taking place in the first or second week of May. The consortium hopes to finish its admissions process by August. The first week of August is when the majority of NLUs begin classes.

Admission Through AILET

AILET, the NLU Delhi entrance test, is likewise an offline-based examination that is held across the country. AILET application forms for BA LLB, LLM, and PhD programmes are released around the second-third week of January. The exam is held in May-June, and classes begin in the first week of August.

Differences Between the CLAT and AILET Test Patterns for LLM Programmes

Due to the COVID-19 risk, the CLAT consortium withdrew the CLAT LLM's 'Descriptive Paper' last year. The subjective portion of the exam, however, has been reinstated by the Consortium this year. On the other hand, the AILET 2024 test pattern for LLM courses remains the same as in prior years. Check out the CLAT and AILET test patterns for PG courses:
