Start with Percentage and Ratio

Candidates should start their CAT QA preparation by understanding the fundamentals of percentage and ratio. Additionally, candidates should understand and practise basic equation problems from the exponent, linear equation, quadratic equation, and discriminant formula. Candidates should dedicate around 15 days to master the percentage and ratio topics of CAT 2025. To help candidates effectively strengthen their basics of quants topics, PW provides free CAT Essentials and CAT Foundation batches.

Master Advanced Topics of Percentage and Ratio

Once candidates gain a thorough command of the basics of percentages and ratios, they should move to other challenging sections of each topic. In percentage, candidates should aim to gain command of the following:
  • Profit, loss, and discount
  • SI/CI
  • Speed Distance Time
  • Work Rate Time
In Ratio, candidates should progress to cover the topics provided below:
  • Partnership
  • Proportionality
  • Mixture
To complete the advanced percentage and ratio topics, candidates should dedicate around 1.5 months.

Strengthen Algebra

Algebra is a section that includes formula-based questions. By accurately understanding the requirements of the questions and applying relevant formulas, candidates can score full marks in Algebra. Therefore, candidates must strengthen their grasp of Algebra during the CAT preparation phase. Ideally, candidates should allocate 1.5 months to master the following Algebra topics for the CAT exam:
  • Linear equations
  • Quadratic equations
  • Exponents
  • Inequalities
  • Modulus
  • Functions
  • Logarithms

Understand Geometry

Geometry is another crucial topic of the CAT QA section. In the past few years, nearly 3-4 questions of CAT were from geometry. Therefore, to increase sectional and overall score of CAT, candidates must dedicate 1 month to understand and strengthen their grasp of the following Geometry topics:
  • Triangles
  • Circles
  • Polygons
  • Lines and Angles
  • Quadrilateral
  • Coordinate Geometry (slopes, equations of lines, intersections).

Cover Number System

Although the Number System is not a high-weightage chapter of CAT, candidates must cover various chapters of this topic to improve their QA scores. By allocating 20 days to the number system, candidates can strengthen their preparation. Here are the major topics candidates should cover in Number System:
  • Factors
  • Remainder
  • LCM/HCF
  • Misc.

Strengthen Modern Maths

Every year, CAT includes 1-2 questions from Modern Maths. Therefore, candidates should cover different chapters on this topic. Additionally, candidates should pay extra attention to Sequence and Series as the CAT QA section comprises at least 1 question from this topic. Candidates must allocate 20 days to understand the concepts and practice questions from Modern Maths topics. Here are the major chapters of CAT Modern Maths:
  • Statistics
  • P&C
  • Series
  • Probability

CAT 2025 Quants Revision Plan

Candidates can effectively cover the CAT Quants syllabus in 6 months. While covering various chapters of Qunts, candidates should keep creating their own notes and formula charts for quick revision. After completing the syllabus, candidates should thoroughly revise each topic by referring to sample papers and PYQs.
