SNAP General English: Overview

• The General English section of the SNAP exam is generally straightforward. In terms of sections, both Vocabulary and Grammar include a mix of easy and moderately challenging questions.
• Previously, the SNAP question paper featured around eight Reading Comprehension questions. However, in recent years, SNAP has excluded RC passage-based questions from the exam.
• SNAP no longer includes non-MCQs (Special Questions) and has eliminated differential marking as well. Each question now carries a single mark, with a 0.25 negative marking for incorrect attempts.

• A strong grasp of English grammar makes tackling the Verbal section easier with some practice. If your grammar isn't robust, start by revisiting the basics. The book "High School English Grammar & Composition" by Wren & Martin is a great resource. Create concise notes with definitions and examples, revisiting them regularly.
• For boosting your vocabulary, read "Word Power Made Easy" by Norman Lewis. Understand words in terms of meaning, usage, and origin, as some words have varying meanings in different contexts, which might appear in SNAP 2024.
• Breaking down words can unveil their origins. For instance, "prescient" (prescient) means having knowledge before events occur, with the prefix 'pre' suggesting 'before.'
• Unlike before, SNAP doesn't include Reading Comprehension passages. For Verbal Ability questions, practice a range of SNAP mock tests.
• During the SNAP exam, avoid speed reading. Also, don't read answers first and then the passage. Instead, read the passage at a regular pace, followed by answer options. This can help you identify the correct answer more effectively.
