What is FMGE?
The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is a mandatory licensing test conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) who have earned their medical degrees abroad and wish to practice medicine in India. Introduced in 2002, FMGE is required for those who completed their medical education after March 15, 2002, and serves solely as a qualification exam—not for college admissions. Held twice a year, in June and December, it allows multiple attempts for those who do not pass initially. In 2023, the exam saw a low success rate, with only 8,309 out of 38,355 candidates passing, reflecting a 23% pass percentage.
FMGE 2025 Results
The FMGE 2025 result will be declared online on August 26, 2025, via the official NBEMS website. Candidates must log in using their credentials to check their results, as they will not be sent by post or email. To pass the exam, candidates must score at least 150 out of 300 marks. Qualified candidates will be able to download their scorecards about a week after the result announcement. There is no provision for re-evaluation or grace marks. Those who clear the exam must personally collect their FMGE Pass Certificate from the NBE office by presenting original documents, which will then allow them to apply for provisional registration with NMC or SMC to practice medicine in India.
FMGE 2025 Cut Off Marks
FMGE cut-off marks will be determined by the NBE and announced along with the results. Candidates must secure the prescribed cut-off marks to qualify the exam and be eligible for provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India (MCI).
