What is FMGE?

The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is a mandatory licensing test conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) who have earned their medical degrees abroad and wish to practice medicine in India. Introduced in 2002, FMGE is required for those who completed their medical education after March 15, 2002, and serves solely as a qualification exam—not for college admissions. Held twice a year, in June and December, it allows multiple attempts for those who do not pass initially. In 2023, the exam saw a low success rate, with only 8,309 out of 38,355 candidates passing, reflecting a 23% pass percentage.

FMGE 2025 Results Out

The FMGE 2025 result for the June session has been released online by NBEMS and can be checked in PDF format on the official website natboard.edu.in or nbe.edu.in. Students do not need login credentials to view the result PDF. However, individual scorecards can be downloaded using login credentials from August 21, 2025 onwards. To pass the exam, candidates must score at least 150 out of 300 marks (50%). There is no provision for re-evaluation or grace marks. Qualified candidates must personally collect their FMGE Pass Certificate from the NBEMS office by presenting original documents, which then allows them to apply for provisional registration with the NMC or respective State Medical Councils to practice medicine in India. Five candidates’ results have been withheld pending clarification from the Exam Ethics Committee of the NMC.

FMGE cut-off marks  will be determined by the NBE and announced along with the results. Candidates must secure the prescribed cut-off marks to qualify the exam and be eligible for provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India (MCI).
