Difference between Molecule and Compound Overview

In chemistry, molecules, and compounds are fundamental concepts, but they have some differences. A molecule is just a bunch of atoms stuck together, like when two oxygen atoms make oxygen gas (O2). On the other hand, a compound is a special kind of molecule where different types of atoms join forces. For example, water (H2O) is a compound because it has hydrogen and oxygen atoms teaming up. What is the difference between a molecule and an ion compound?

A molecule is a collection of atoms bonded together, where the bonding can be covalent and involves atoms of the same or different elements. Examples include O2 or H2.
