NEET 2025 Reservation Criteria Overview

The NEET reservation system is designed to provide equitable access to medical education for various socio-economic groups. As per the guidelines established by the Government of India, there are specific reservation policies in place for candidates from the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD). These reservations are applicable to both the All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota seats.

NEET 2025 Reservation Criteria For OBC

In NEET 2025, the reservation for candidates belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category will be 27% of the total seats. This includes candidates from the OBC category who belong to the non-creamy layer. The creamy layer refers to the OBCs whose annual income exceeds a specific limit, thus making them ineligible for reservation benefits. Candidates belonging to the OBC category must provide valid OBC-NCL certificates, which need to be issued by the competent authority. The OBC certificate must be current and must confirm that the candidate is from the non-creamy layer.

NEET 2025 Reservation Criteria For PwD

The reservation for candidates with disabilities (PwD) in NEET 2025 is 5% of the total available seats under both the All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota. To avail of the PwD reservation, candidates must present a disability certificate issued by a recognized medical authority. The certificate should confirm that the candidate has a disability that falls under the specified guidelines set by the government. The PwD category in NEET includes disabilities such as blindness, low vision, hearing impairment, locomotor disability, and other specified conditions as per government norms. NEET 2025 Reservation Criteria for EWS

For NEET 2025, the Government of India has implemented a 10% reservation for candidates from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). This reservation is applicable to candidates who are not covered under any other reservation categories, including SC, ST, and OBC, but belong to the economically weaker sections of society. The EWS category is determined based on the income and property criteria set by the government. Candidates applying under the EWS category must provide an EWS certificate, which must be issued by the competent authority. This certificate should specify that the candidate’s family income is below the threshold set by the government.

NEET 2025 Reservation Criteria for 15% AIQ

The All India Quota (AIQ) seats refer to the 15% of total seats available in all government medical and dental colleges across India. The AIQ is meant to provide opportunities for students from different states to apply for medical seats in colleges outside their home state. The reservation criteria for the 15% AIQ seats are as follows:
NEET 2025 Reservation Criteria for 15% AIQ
SC 15% of the AIQ seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste category.
ST 7.5% of the AIQ seats are reserved for candidates from the Scheduled Tribe category.
OBC 27% of the AIQ seats are reserved for candidates from the Other Backward Classes (non-creamy layer).
PwD 5% of the AIQ seats are reserved for candidates with disabilities.
EWS 10% of the AIQ seats are reserved for candidates from the Economically Weaker Sections.

NEET 2025 Reservation For 85% State Quota Seats

Apart from the 15% AIQ seats, there is a reservation system for 85% of the seats that fall under the State Quota. These 85% of seats are reserved for candidates who are residents of the respective state and apply through the state’s counseling process. The reservation criteria for the 85% State Quota seats are similar to those for the AIQ:

NEET 2025 Reservation Criteria For Deemed Universities

Deemed universities also follow a reservation system for NEET 2025. These universities offer medical courses under the management quota, and the reservation criteria are generally in line with those of the state and central government policies. However, the exact percentage of reserved seats can vary based on the university and state government rules. Deemed universities typically reserve seats for categories such as SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwD. However, candidates should refer to the specific guidelines provided by the deemed university and the government.

NEET Reservation 2025 Documents Required

For candidates applying under any of the reserved categories, it is mandatory to submit the necessary documents during the NEET 2025 counseling process. These documents serve as proof of eligibility for the respective reservation category. Some of the essential documents required include:
  • SC/ST/OBC certificate : This certificate must be issued by the relevant authorities, confirming the candidate’s status.
  • EWS certificate: For candidates applying under the Economically Weaker Section category, an EWS certificate is required.
