NTA Clarification on NEET 2024: Since the NEET 2024 results were announced on June 4, 2024, students and stakeholders have raised concerns about anomalies in the merit list, top scorers, and scoring system. This year, an unusually high number of 67 candidates received perfect scores, compared to previous years when only two or three candidates did.
Furthermore, two candidates reportedly scored 718 and 719 out of 720 in NEET 2024, which appears unlikely given the exam's marking scheme. To address these concerns raised by stakeholders regarding anomalies in the NEET 2024 results, the National Testing Agency (NTA) issued a press release on June 6, 2024. NTA press release on NEET 2024 aims to clarify discrepancies in the NEET 2024 merit list , scoring system, and top scorers.

NTA reply on NEET 2024, saying that several candidates filed petitions in the High Courts of Punjab & Haryana, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh, citing exam time lost during NEET (UG) 2024 held on May 5, 2024, at certain centres. These issues required careful consideration for resolution.
To address these concerns, NTA formed a Grievance Redressal Committee comprising experts from examinations and academia. This committee reviewed the grievances and representations using factual reports from officials and CCTV footage from relevant exam centers.
After assessment, the Committee compensated affected candidates based on their answering efficiency and time lost, following guidelines from the Supreme Court’s June 13, 2018 judgment (W.P. 551 of 2018). A total of 1563 candidates received compensation, resulting in revised marks ranging from -20 to 720. Notably, two candidates received scores of 718 and 719 marks respectively due to compensatory marks.
CCTV analysis confirmed that the integrity of the examination was maintained at these centers.
In 2023, a total of 20,38,596 candidates appeared for the exam, while in 2024, this number increased to 23,33,297 . With more candidates participating, there was a rise in high scorers due to the larger candidate pool. The National Testing Agency (NTA) received 13,373 challenges regarding the provisional answer key for a Physics question. Upon review by Subject Experts, it was decided that two options should be considered correct instead of one due to differences between old and new editions of the NCERT textbook.
Out of the 67 candidates who achieved a perfect score of 720/720 , 44 benefited from the revised answer key in Physics , and 6 received additional marks due to time lost during the exam . It's important to note that the top performers are from various regions across the country, as highlighted in the NTA press release on NEET 2024 dated June 4, 2024.
