Will NEET UG 2024 Conducted Again: NEET, or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, is an entrance exam for students aspiring to pursue careers in medical and related fields, including MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, AYUSH, and veterinary studies. In 2024, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the NEET exam for over 24 lakh medical students on May 5. Following rumors of a paper leak and extensive discussions on social media, there is now a significant question: will the NEET UG 2024 need to be held again?

This controversy surrounding the alleged NEET paper leak has captured the attention of numerous media outlets, shifting their focus from the election results to this unfolding news story. Additionally, the release of the NEET result added to the shock among students, as it was announced unexpectedly on June 4, a full ten days earlier than the originally scheduled date of June 14. NEET 2024 Controversy

NEET UG 2024 To be Conducted Again

Yes, the NEET-UG 2024 exam will be conducted again for a few candidates, as per the latest reports. A petitioner raised concerns over 1563 candidates receiving compensatory marks due to not being allotted the full 3 hours 20 minutes at their exam centers. The compensatory marks were based on a Grievance Redressal Committee’s recommendation, following a precedent set by a previous court ruling.

The decision faced challenges, leading another committee appointed by the NTA to re-evaluate the issue. This committee suggested cancelling the affected students' NEET 2024 scorecards and conducting a re-examination, likely on June 23, with results expected by June 30 to ensure timely NEET 2024 counselling.

Acknowledging the Union Government and NTA’s position, the Court resolved one petition against the grace marks but issued a notice on another alleging a paper leak. These petitions, along with others concerning NEET-UG 2024 results, were consolidated for further consideration. While one petition was settled, broader issues remain unresolved.

Will NEET UG 2024 Conducted Again?

After the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET 2024) scam was discovered in Bihar and Gujarat, students began questioning the integrity of the medical entrance exam and demanded that it be re-conducted. Over 24 lakh candidates applied for NEET UG 2024 , which was held on May 5.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has denied any reports of paper leaks, calling them completely false and baseless. Overview of NEET UG 2024 Results Controversy

Background and Complaints - There are widespread complaints across the country about the NEET UG 2024 results, which has shifted public focus from political topics to this educational issue.

Concerns About Unusually High Scores - Some students reportedly scored 718 and 719, which is unexpected. Normally, the highest score possible is 720, and each correct answer adds four points, but a wrong answer takes away one point.

Explanation from the National Testing Agency (NTA) - The NTA explained that the scores of 718 and 719 were because of extra marks given for time lost during the exam at some centers. However, they haven't clearly explained how they decided who gets these extra marks or how many students were affected.

Suspicion Over Top Scores - Many of the highest-scoring students (who scored 720) were from the same exam center. This has led to doubts about whether the scoring was done fairly.

NTA's Response - The NTA says the extra marks were based on a method set by a Supreme Court decision on June 13, 2018. They did not share detailed information about how this method works or how it was applied this time.

Dissatisfaction Among Students - Despite the NTA's explanations, many students and people watching the situation feel that the results lack transparency and fairness.

NEET UG 2024- NTA Clarifies Paper Leak Incident

Despite reports of a question paper leak at one examination center, the National Testing Agency (NTA) stated that the NEET exam's integrity remains unaffected. Except for this center, all other centers started and finished the exam on time and without incident.

The NTA went on to say that, to ensure fairness, approximately 120 students affected by the incident were allowed to retake the exam on May 5. This incident did not impact the examinations at other centers, where the exams proceeded as scheduled. Also, NTA responded to Will NEET UG 2024 Conducted Again by stating that NEET 2024 will not be held again.

How Many Students Appeared For NEET 2024?

NTA Takes on Posts Circulating on Social Media

On May 6, 2024, following the exam, Dr. Sadhana Parashar, Senior Director, released a notice in response to social media posts regarding NEET (UG) 2024. This statement is about the social media posts concerning the NEET (UG) 2024 exam held on May 5, 2024. These posts suggest that the question paper was leaked before the exam. To clear up any confusion, the National Testing Agency (NTA) provides the following information for candidates, their parents, teachers, and everyone concerned:

  1. The NTA successfully conducted the NEET (UG) 2024 exam on May 5, 2024, across 4750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 cities abroad.
  2. According to NTA's security protocols and Standard Operating Procedures, the social media posts claiming a paper leak are completely false. Every question paper has been accounted for. Moreover, once the gates of the exam centers are closed, no one from outside is allowed inside the halls, which are under CCTV surveillance.
  3. According to the press release from NTA on 6 May, there was an incident at a center in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, where some students took the question papers away against their will before the exam was over. A picture of this question paper is being wrongly linked to the alleged paper leak, which is misleading and false. After the exam has begun, there is no way for any outside individual or organization to enter the centers.
  4. All other photographs of question papers circulating on social media are unrelated to the NEET 2024 question paper .
  5. Despite this, there have been cases of malpractice and impersonation.  Those who engage in such activities face severe consequences.
  6. NTA also conducts post-exam data analysis to detect unfair means (UFM) cases. According to current rules, actions taken in UFM cases include the cancellation of candidature and a ban from future exams.
  7. NEET (UG) 2024 saw record-high registrations this year, with over 24 lakh students registering—the highest ever—with over 10 lakh male students and over 13 lakh female students. This increase was facilitated by selecting several smaller cities as centers, especially in the Northeast, Puducherry, Jammu and Kashmir, and other states.

Despite the challenges, the NEET (UG) 2024 operation involved more than 600 center coordinators at city levels, over 5,000 center superintendents and their staff across India, and 4,800 schools.

In light of the above, candidates, their parents, teachers, and everyone concerned are urged not to pay attention to such rumors and to focus on their upcoming exams.
