Indian National Earth Science Olympiad Stages
The Geological Society of India is responsible for selecting the Indian Team for the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO). The Earth Science Olympiad program consists of four stages, these are-
-
National level Entrance Test:
This is carried out by a specific national organization that supervises the IESO in the relevant country. The Entrance Test evaluates students' understanding in geology, geophysics, meteorology, oceanography, astronomy, and environmental science. A specific number of the highest scorers advance to the following stage.
-
Training Camp culminating in the Indian National Earth Science Olympiad:
This camp includes lectures, practical sessions, field excursions, and data analysis. At the conclusion of the training camp, the student's advancement is assessed through a competitive examination, the INESO. The highest-scoring students from the INESO are selected to represent the nation at the IESO.
-
Pre-departure training camp:
At this camp, the chosen students receive additional training and preparation. This camp assists them in improving their knowledge and skills and highlights team building and cultural exchange.
-
International Earth Science Olympiad:
The concluding phase is the IESO itself, convened in a different nation annually. It comprises both theoretical and practical assessments, along with field activities, and the participants' performance is evaluated by a global jury.
