Education Ministers of India

Education Ministers of India: Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan is the current Education Minister of India in 2025. The Ministry of Education (MoE) is an important department of the Government of India. It is responsible for carrying out the National Education Policy and improving the education system across the country. The ministry works through two main divisions. One looks after school education, literacy, and adult education, while the other focuses on higher education, technical education, universities, and scholarships.

Since independence in 1947, India’s literacy rate has grown from about 12% to nearly 75%. Over 30 leaders have served as Education Ministers, each playing a key role in strengthening education in India.

Dharmendra Pradhan is the current Education Minister of India and an important member of the Council of Ministers. The Ministry of Education has been a key part of India’s governance since 1947. In 1985, during Rajiv Gandhi’s government, it was renamed the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). Recently, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ministry got back its original name, the Ministry of Education, after the launch of the National Education Policy 2020, which brought major changes to the education system.

Education Minister of India 2025

Dharmendra Pradhan is an Indian politician. He currently holds two important positions in the Indian government: Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. He studied at Talcher College and Utkal University. Before his current roles, he also served as the Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and the Minister of Steel.

Abul Kalam Azad was the first Education Minister of independent India. A leader of the Indian National Congress, he was also a scholar, writer, and poet. Known as “Maulana Azad,” he supported India’s freedom struggle through journalism and became the youngest Congress President at 35. He worked for Hindu-Muslim unity, secularism, and education. Azad was a close supporter of Mahatma Gandhi and took part in major movements like Quit India. His birthday is celebrated as National Education Day to honor his contributions to education and nation-building.
