The RBSE Class 12th English paper is structured to assess your comprehension, writing ability, grammar proficiency, and understanding of literature in a balanced way. The question paper is divided into three major sections: Reading, Writing & Grammar, and Literature, each carrying a significant weightage out of the total 80 marks.

The RBSE board has also made a mention of the prescribed books in the curriculum for Class 12th. Here are the names of the books:

1. Flamingo: It includes both prose and poetry. It is essential for reading-based comprehension and literary appreciation.

2. Vistas: It focuses on character-based and value-based learning through stories and narrative texts.

Both books are core to the literature section and must be thoroughly understood. You must also practice questions from each chapter to help build confidence.

How to Prepare for the RBSE Class 12th English Exam 2025-26?

To perform well across all parts of the English paper, here’s how you should prepare each section strategically:

1. Reading Comprehension (15 Marks)

Practice at least 2 unseen passages daily (factual + literary). Focus on identifying main ideas, implied meanings, and improving vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, contextual use). You can mark key words in the question and scan the passage to find where they appear. This will save your time and boost accuracy.

2. Writing Section (14 Marks)

This section includes various formats: advertisement, notices, arguments, reports, and formal letters (business/editor/job applications). You must follow the structure and the word limit mentioned there. You  must practice writing within 15 minutes for each task to understand the exam pressure and how you deal with it.

3. Grammar (10 Marks)

The grammar section includes concepts like conditional sentences, synthesis, phrasal verbs, and conjunctions. These are usually asked in fill-in-the-blanks and sentence conversion formats. For this section, you must consistently revise the rules of grammar for better understanding. You can create a notebook with rules and 5 example sentences for each topic. 

4. Literature (Flamingo & Vistas – 41 Marks)

To score well in the literature section, understand the themes, characters, and literary devices used in prose and poetry. Both factual (MCQ) and analytical (long answer) questions can appear in the exam. Practice extract-based questions and explanation of stanzas. For Vistas, focus on interpretation-based long answers and character analysis.

5. Solve Previous Years’ Papers

It is important to practice questions from RBSE Class 12 Previous Year Question Papers to understand the exam pattern, question types, and commonly asked questions. This will help you with time management and boosts your confidence. Try solving one full paper every week within the 3-hour limit and evaluate yourself honestly.
