EBC Quota

EBC Quota: The main purpose of the reservation or quota system in India is to increase the chances of disadvantaged communities to improve their social and educational status (in the sense that it is better than the previous one - until it is similar to the average member of other communities). Thus they can take their rightful place in the mainstream of Indian society.

EBC Quota

Reservation quota in the context of the Indian higher education system basically means that all universities and colleges have a certain percentage of seats reserved for students who are socially and educationally backward or belong to different castes such as SC and ST. 15% and 7.5% seats are reserved for SC and ST category candidates in Indian colleges. In addition to this, the government has reserved 27% of seats for OBC category students. Reservations or quotas have been an integral part of the higher education system in India. Over the years, many students from reserved classes, especially Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) have been admitted in prestigious universities and colleges in India.

Economically Backward Class (EBC)

Economically Backward Classes (EBC) is a group of people whose annual household income is less than Rs. 8 lakhs. However, this group of people is not included in the list of OBC, ST or SC Scheduled Castes. Also, Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Economically Backward Classes (EBC) are not synonymous. This is because while the requirements for EBC and Economically Backward Class (MEBC) vary from state to state, the Government of India has clearly defined EWS. Thus, the requirements to obtain an EBC certificate differ from country to country. Read o to learn more about EBC certification, including its application process, eligibility criteria, and more.

What is EBC Certificate

If your family's annual income is less than Rs. 8 lakh and you are not a member of SC, ST or OBC, you can apply for EBC certificate. For additional criteria or changes to eligibility standards, contact your state's Department of Public Welfare. For example, if the applicant owns a property even though the family income ceiling is below the permissible limit, several states in India issue an EBC certificate. EBC certification offers various financial benefits. However, the actual conditions of the certificate vary from state to state. Some states offer some benefits to EBC holders, such as a full or partial exemption from educational requirements.
