The PUMDET 2025 merit list and cutoff serve different purposes in the admission process at Presidency University. The cutoff refers to the minimum marks required to qualify for admission, which varies by course and category. On the other hand, the merit list is a ranked list of candidates who have qualified, arranged based on their entrance exam scores. While the cutoff determines eligibility, the merit list decides the order of preference for seat allotment during counselling.
PUMDET cutoff is influenced by various factors each year, determining the minimum marks required for admission to postgraduate programs at Presidency University. Below are the key factors:
Number of Applicants - An increase in the number of candidates appearing for PUMDET raises competition, leading to higher cutoff scores. Conversely, fewer applicants may lower the cutoff.
Exam Difficulty Level - If the exam is challenging, the average scores tend to be lower, which may reduce the cutoff. Conversely, an easier exam typically results in higher cutoffs.
Seat Availability - The total number of seats in postgraduate courses significantly impacts the cutoff. Popular courses with fewer seats tend to have a higher cutoff due to high demand.
Reservation Policies - Category-specific reservations for SC, ST, OBC, and PwD candidates impact the general cutoff. Reserved categories typically have relaxed cutoffs compared to unreserved categories.
Performance of Candidates - The overall performance of candidates in the exam plays a critical role. Higher overall scores may result in an increased cutoff.
Previous Year Trends - Historical cutoffs are used as a benchmark to predict the current year's cutoff, considering changes in exam patterns, difficulty levels, and competition.
