The West Bengal New Education Policy 2023, which incorporates significant improvements to the state's educational system from pre-primary to higher education level, was recently published by the West Bengal Higher Education Department. The purpose of the education policy is to guarantee that higher education is available to everyone, with a particular emphasis on underrepresented, disadvantaged, and marginalized sectors of society. Changes to the test system, educational system, and language-learning module are all covered by the policy. On April 7, 2022, the government appointed an expert committee made up of education specialists to start this reform in the West Bengal Educational system. - The main language of instruction in schools with a Bengali-speaking population will be Bengali. In West Bengal States, English will be utilized in English-medium schools, Urdu in Urdu-medium schools, and Hindi in Hindi-medium schools.
West Bengal Education Policy 2023 covers the below-mentioned modifications/updates:
- Education Structure: West Bengal's 5+4+2+2 pattern-following educational system will be changed. The first two years of early childhood education will thereafter be included at Anganwadi centres after that.
- According to the recommendations of the education committee, pupils in West Bengal's 10th and 12th grades would be required to take a course in Bangla language.
- Students in grades 5 through 8 will be subject to the 3-Language Formula, which will be based on the medium used by their school.
- Students in eighth grade and up will be exposed to semester systems with the intention of improving the formative assessment system. Over the course of the following three years, this step will be completed in stages.
- Students will be able to choose from internship programmes and summer projects in the fields of their choosing. Collaborations with media outlets, publishing companies, and other corporate firms will be made in order to provide internship possibilities.
