Documents and other items needed by candidates for the IELTS test

The only form of identification recognized at the test center is a current, valid passport. When you arrive at the IELTS test center, your identification will be verified. It is required for the entire test, including the listening/reading, writing, and speaking sections. It is also the only form of identification permitted throughout the registration procedure for IELTS test applicants. The identification document you provided for the IELTS Exam 2024 should be the same one you provided when you applied for the test. Remember to take a color photocopy of the front and back pages of your passport. Candidates without a valid ID will be denied access to the IELTS test center.

Items needed at the IELTS examination center

  • 2 recent identical passport-sized photographs of yourself
  • These pictures are required if the photograph given in your registration form is not clear. If this happens, you will be required to submit a new picture at the first ID check on the day of the test.
  • Print the confirmation email sent by the British Council to your registered email address after registering for the IELTS test. This printout is stamped at the beginning of the listening, reading, writing, and speaking tests.
  • Several pencils, a sharpener, and an eraser, as well as a black or blue ballpoint pen.
  • A little 500-ml water bottle that is clear and unlabeled. However, at certain centers, this may not be required since rules would have been made for providing test participants with drinking water/refreshments and other necessities.
