History of World Teacher's Day

World Teacher’s Day was recognised as an annual event on October 05, 1994, as a tribute to the 30th anniversary of the 1966 conference. In 1966, UNESCO and ILO (International Labour Organisation) adopted a documented recommendation in Paris, France to recognise the importance and status of teachers. The conference discussed the rights and responsibilities of teachers and the standard practices to be followed for their employment.

Since then, World Teacher’s Day has been celebrated to honour teachers and their contribution to society. Through its various themes, the day also discusses the challenges faced by teachers to offer quality education and ways to make teaching a feasible profession for the upcoming generation.
